Job Description

The Vocational Training Business Development Officer will responsible for providing business and market development support to graduate trainees in order to help the graduates trainees sell their products, and the skill they have learned. He/she will mobilize fresh/new graduated trainees, and prepare space for their products and skills in local, and national markets, regular visits, conducting/arranging meetings, business, and market development workshops/training. He/she will facilitate and support business planning, and development, operation results of the project, and he/she is also responsible for the day-to-day operation, and management of VT centers to ensure smooth implementation of daily VT activities. He/she will work closely with the Multipurpose youth coordinator, and with other relevant departments in the War Child Canada office such as Finance HR Operations, and Procurement Security to ensure proper program implementation according to policies and procedures. He/she will liaise with program participants the community and private/government stakeholders accordingly as required.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of Program Manager, the BDS Marketing Officer is responsible for the following up day-to-day activities of the project including
  • Conduct a market assessment in project location/operational areas, and identify the venerable host community to be targeted for the skills training to participate in the program.
  • Overall daily operation, and management of the VT center including, but not limited to: ensuring that training centers’ facilities are maintained adequately.
  • Daily monitor, and follow- up on the trainers’ attendance, training quality, and performance.
  • Develop, and maintain an updated excel database (soft copy) of all enrolled program participant dropouts, and successful graduates based on age, gender residency status, skill location type of program start date, and end date, contact information plus all other required fields determined by the program/ management team.
  • Closely cooperate with VT trainers to develop the VT syllabus, and curriculum, and make sure market development standards are available in the centers.
  • Create mutual coordination on the project implementation with key stakeholders, youth associations, NGOs, and other defacto authorities.
  • Assist the project implementation team in the preparation of the work plan, budget, and reports.
  • Facilitate linkages between enterprises such as bulk purchasing sub-contracting, and collective marketing.
  • Create market linkage between rural-urban, and regional markets: e.g. identify exhibition opportunities for local products, and facilitate the business community members to participate in the exhibition.
  • Establish contact and maintain a list of local enterprises employer’s clients produced by Vocational training beneficiaries, and for market linkages, and exhibitions.
  • Conduct the business, and market development training for the target group on a regular base.
  • Engage in market research to identify new opportunities for business development for those beneficiaries with advance skills
  • Responsible for raising awareness, knowledge and compatibility of program beneficiaries and BD service providers to strengthen the outreach and to achieve the project targets.
  • Provide advice and technical support to beneficiaries on Business Development Service skills on regular bases
  • Record monthly results and report back to the Program Manager
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly progress reports and submit to supervisor
  • Ensure proper filling of attendance sheets, business plans etc
  • Conduct phone call and follow up with beneficiaries if necessary
  • Collect case studies and success stories according to WCC format
  • Participate in project staff meetings, and ensure effective communication
  • Facilitate weekly youths and women group meetings to discuss progress challenges and solutions.
  • Perform any other tasks requested by the line manager
 

Job Requirements

Academic Background and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Vocational Education Business Administration (BBA) Commerce (B. Com) Economics or development studies
  • 3-4 years’ relevant experience in vocational training marketing and livelihoods implementation.
  • Demonstrated budget management skills; good report writing and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent Dari Pashto and English language skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer office applications and email.
  • Strong livelihoods business development and marketing skills
  • Ability to regularly travel to the project sites for doing fieldwork.
  • Should be familiar with the area’s cultural traditions and its sensitiveness
  • Experience in working with and coordinating with INGOs and other stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal intercultural and communication skills
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to improving others’ livelihoods opportunities and engaging with rural communities and marginalized urban households
  • Able to provide clear and brief monthly quarterly and final project reports

Skills:

  • Dari or Pashtu is mandatory
  • Strong critical thinking and reasoning skills
  • Good Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good knowledge of community development especially working with women,
  • Excellent communication, problem solving and presentation skills
  • Flexibility and ability to work under pressure and meeting of deadlines
  • Good reporting skills including report compilation, analysis and presentation
  • Culture sensitive and respect for local norms
  • Confidentiality and privacy
