Job Description

The  Trauma care / Rehabilitation Specialist doctor is responsible for the supervision of trauma care patients of ; (Fractures, Burns, Spinal Cord Injury, Traumatic Brain Injury, Amputation, Soft tissue deformities within multiple injuries presentation), and to asses files follow up for each condition; General rehab file, standard scoring/ classification scales follow up, complications check list, treatment plans. He works under the supervision of Project Manager with the collaboration of physical Rehab team and advise of Remote Medical Rehabilitation Doctor Specialist/PMR .

Responsibilities:

 

Under the responsibility of Project Manager you will be responsible for:

 

In Genreral;: The employee will respect the Handicap International PSEA policy, Do no Harm policy, and other realted procedures and standards.

Objective_1: Patients management

  • To select eligible cases from MRH to be followed up at PRC trauma care unit
  • To follow patient assessment : general medical file ( BP , Pulse , …) , skin assessment , bladder – bowel , medication Follow-up
  • To follow up Bladder management and patient/ family education
  • To follow up Bowel management and Patient/family education
  • To prescribe adequate medication as needed
  • If required to perform minor surgery and procedures such as (abscess drainage, club foot tenotomy) removing external fixators 
  • Prevention  of secondary complications has to be communicated
  • To follow up skin management and patient family education
  • To follow up Wound care protocol
  • To follow up UTI  treatment and prevention
  • To make the final decision follow up preparation for discharge of patients and home care
  • To assess bladder and treatment options ( ID , IC , Tapping ,  Bladder diversion)
  • To explain the prognosis of cases to patients/caregiver

Objective_2: Interdisciplinary coordination

  •  To held daily base morning reports sessions concerning newly admitted patients
  • To follow up Chest therapy management
  • To assist in referring patients with addressing indication and contraindication
  • To identify eligible patients from Mirwis regional hospital wards which require post-operative rehabilitation
  • To facilitate consultancy session with various specialties (Urology, Internal medicine, general surgery and Obe/Gyn etc…)
  • Participate and represent HI at MRH and PPHD coordination technical meetings
  • To facilitate and conduct 2 remote session per month online with PMR Specialist for technical exchange and support
  • To facilitate discussion session with PTs and P&O technicians on provision of positioning splinting
  • To facilitate discussion with PSS workers on provision of PSS sessions 

Objective_3: Technical follow-up/ monitoring and management of admitted case  

  • To lead daily routine on patient round visit
  • To re-assessment of patients condition  
  • To check up of presence and contends assessment files of all health staff: General rehab files doctors - nursing – PT/ PSS.
  • To check the quality of the data upload on the activities done by the nurses into the beneficiairy pack of the SDU for good monitoring of services
  • To follow up skin management : type of management implemented , check documentation , observation of wound care
  • To follow up Urology : UTI status , urodynamic exam , protocol applied , medication provided
  • To follow up Bowel : status of bowel , evacuation type
  • To follow up Spasticity – contractures status : type of management chosen  
  • To follow up functional outcomes decision (appropriate wheelchair, orthotics, gait training
  • To check other complications checklist: AD, PE, AO.

Reporting:

  • To report weekly and monthly reports to PRC Project manager.

 

Job Requirements

Knowledge required

Essential:

  •     General physician, background on the field of orthopedics/ rehabilitation / neurology / internal medicine combined  will be preferable.
  •     A good working knowledge of the methods and equipment used for the patients admitted at the SUD within the SOP of the project  .
  • Flexibility and the ability to work shifts and remain on call for emergency situations.

Skills

Essential

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
  • Communication skills on remote basis for technical exchange and care quality improvement .

Desirable:

  • At least two years experience in relevant field
  • Familiar with the Afghanistan medical context
