About Enabled Children Initiative

The Enabled Children Initiative (ECI) is an independent charity organization registered in the United Kingdom, and as a 501(c)(3) in the USA with a charity branch in Afghanistan (number 465). ECI supports children in Afghanistan with disabilities with residential, educational and income generation support for families. Through our 5 programs, we support children with disabilities who are the most vulnerable—abandoned by families living in extreme poverty who have no resources to cope, or unclaimed by family after the death of one or both parents. We also work with families with disabled children, providing educational and income generation support, in order to prevent the abandonment or institutionalization of children with disabilities. ECI improves the children’s quality of life and helps them reach their full potential.

Job Description

ECI is seeking to employ a part-time technical writing consultant who will be responsible for drafting training materials to accompany an inclusive education teacher-training program, as well as drafting a set of M&E materials to measure inclusive education practices in community-based classrooms. ECI is part of a larger consortium aiming to reach 70,000 out-of-school children via community-based schools. The goal of ECI’s role in the consortium is to train a set of trainers and specialists in inclusive education practices, who will in turn train and support teachers across the provinces in inclusive education.

The Technical Writing Consultant will be responsible for working alongside the Training Coordinator and ECI’s technical specialists in inclusive education to gather the required information to draft the training package and M&E materials. The Technical Writing Consultant position will be based in Kabul and will report to ECI’s Country Director.

The Technical Writing Consultants responsibilities will include the following:

• To work closely and proactively with ECI’s technical experts and training coordinator to compile all information needed to produce the materials.
• To write and prepare the following documents:
  • 1. A training package for the teacher trainings, which will include a trainer guide/handbook, power point slides, and a participant handbook;
  • 2. A set of M&E tools developed for trainers to measure inclusive teaching in the community-based schools and to assess students with disabilities
• To attend regular internal ECI meetings, as well as regular meetings with donor and partner organizations as required;
• Any other tasks as they may arise related to the project.
