Job Description

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Summary:

 

NAC will (as an implementing partner with UNICEF) implement a Global Partnership for Education (GPE) Accelerated Funding, one-year Community-Based Education (CBE) and school wash project in 11 districts in Badakhshan. The project will be implemented in Jurm, Kohistan, Raghestan, Yaftal-e-Payan , Yawan, Daraim, Wardoj, Teshkan, Shohadah, Yamgan and Share buzarg districts and will consist of: the establishment of CBE classes in hard-to reach (HTR) communities; training of school Shuras; teacher training and provision of learning materials; and provision of water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) supplies to CBEs and schools.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

The Support Teachers, (Mentor) is responsible for day-to-day implementation of the GPE CBE and school project in five districts of Badakhshan (mainly conflict affected districts). S/he will be responsible to mentor and support community mobilizers, teachers and CBE classes and have a direct role in the establishment of CBEs, tracking the progress of learners, teacher training, and distribution of education supplies under the project.

 

General Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day support to community mobilizers, class supervisors, and teachers at CBCs, Accelerated Learning Classes (ALCs), and schools.
  • Assist the education officer in identification of out of school children (OOSC), mapping of classes, and the mobilization of communities in enrolment/registration of OOSC.
  • Support the education officer in distribution and documentation of learning materials in CBEs and schools.
  • Assist the M&E officer in documenting and keeping accurate records of activities, including a complete record of the training program, as well as CBE data and other education project activities.
  • Contribute to the needs assessment survey which will be conducted at the beginning of the project.
  • Assist education officers in the establishment of CBE classes and capacity building of CBE Shuras.
  • Mobilize communities, school Shuras and teachers towards the implementation of education activities.
  • Conduct training of teachers and CBE/school Shura members on teaching methodologies, and WASH.
  • Ensure accountability to the affected populations through follow up of targeted schools and communities in cooperation with NAC’s M&E staff.
  • Ensure that all terms and conditions agreed in the signed MoU with the Ministry of education (MOE) are adhered to through the life of the project and any changes are communicated in a timely manner.
  • Assist the education officer in developing linkages with local education committees, Shuras, and community elders to obtain maximum support in assessment, provision of suitable CBE spaces and training venues, community contribution, security, and sustainability
  • Any other relevant tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements

Languages Required:

  •  Dari (reading, writing, and speaking)
  • English (reading, writing and speaking)

 

Qualifications Required:

  • Minimum of 2 – 3 years of working experience in education.
  • Bachelor’s degree in social science and education.
  • Good MS Office knowledge (Ms Word, Excel and Power Point)
  • Locals will be preferred

 

Work Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 2 – 3 years of working experience in education.

 

Skills Required:

  • Able to work in hard-to-reach and conflict affected communities. 
  • Sensitivity to religious, cultural and gender issues in the local context, and for targeted districts in Badakhshan in particular.
  • Ability to develop a practical working plan for the field.
  • Good communication, facilitation, presentation, and report writing skills.
