Job Description

As a structural engineer, you will be crucial in designing and implementing water resources infrastructure projects. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the efficient and sustainable utilisation of water resources for agricultural purposes. Your expertise will contribute to developing vital infrastructure projects to promote water conservation and efficient irrigation practices.

Main tasks and responsibilities for this position:

  • Structural design - utilise your expertise to design check dams, micro dams and other water retention structures, ensuring they meet safety and performance standards.
  • Irrigation canal design - develop efficient and cost-effective irrigation canal systems, considering factors such as terrain, water flow, and environmental impact.
  • Water distribution networks - design and optimise agriculture water distribution networks to ensure a reliable and equitable supply of water to farms and agricultural lands.
  • Hydraulic analysis - conduct hydraulic modelling and analysis to determine the flow rates, pressure, and water distribution within the designed system.
  • Material selection - specify appropriate materials and construction techniques to ensure the longevity and sustainability of water infrastructure projects.
  • Regulatory compliance - ensure that all designs and construction plans adhere to local and national regulations, environmental standards and safety guidelines.
  • Risk assessment - identify potential risks associated with hydraulic projects and develop mitigation strategies to ensure the long-term integrity and functionality of dams and canals.
  • Project management — oversees the planning, scheduling, and execution of micro dams and canal construction activities.
  • Budgeting and cost control - prepare project budgets and monitor expenditures to ensure projects are completed within the allocated financial resources.
  • Quality assurance - implement quality control measures to ensure that construction activities are carried out to meet MRRD and civil engineering standards and project specifications.
  • Documentation - maintain detailed project records, including design plans, progress reports and as-built documentation.
  • Community engagement - foster positive relationships with the local communities and stakeholders. Address concerns, communicate project benefits, and ensure community participation when necessary.
  • Environmental impact assessment - conduct an environmental impact assessment to minimise adverse effects on ecosystems and natural resources while maximising the positive environmental aspects of the project.
