Job Description

GLOBAL OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION:

The Social Worker is responsible for maintaining close cooperation with the targeted local communities for the identification, selection of beneficiaries, follow-up on the on-the-training job, business support and VTC activities. Maintain good relationships, coordination, and communication with beneficiaries, local partners, business owners, and other relevant stakeholders.  

Together with line manager and Technical Coordinator develop effective tools to be used for identification, needs assessment, enrolment, personalized support, coaching, and follow-up of actions for people with disabilities:

  • Support in the identification of those in need, according to the project identification criteria
  • Help people of all life stages cope with and solve everyday problems, as outlined in the project
  • Advocate for and develop plans to improve well-being of project beneficiaries
  • Identify and refer persons with disabilities to community resources and/or other organizations
  • Work with individuals, families or groups
  • Work in contact with a variety of public and private organizations

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS DESCRIPTION:

COMMUNITY LIASING

  • Liaise with local communities, Organizations of People with Disabilities (OPDs) to ensure clear communication with affected communities regarding targeting criteria and how to access assistance and give feedback;
  • Ensure community acceptance of the project through positive interactions and clear communication to beneficiaries and communities in the field.
  • Identification of target group
  • Report on unmet needs and gaps in livelihood response

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION

  • Support in the initial assessment on challenges and barriers faced by people with disabilities to join work opportunities
  • Collects beneficiary data and modify as per the HI selection criteria, add to beneficiary database and profiles
  • She implements activities on the field as agreed with the PO and PM.
  • Support with the identification of marketable vocations based on labor/market survey and selection of vocational training approaches such on-the-job training
  • Ensures beneficiaries are respected
  • Assist the beneficiary through personalized support and identify the type of assistance they may require.
  • Carry out project field monitoring on regular basis with provision of technical advice to beneficiaries.
  • Exchange experience and lessons learnt among the field staff
  • Takes into consideration the MEAL’s recommendations and findings
  • Coordinate with VTC and employer as requested by the PO and PM.
  • Ensure the appropriate documentation of the project activities.
  • Contribute to the organization of the weekly plan, with the support of the Project Officer/Manager
  • Support the partnering projects, whenever requested

REPORTING

  • Provide a regular and timely reports on the activities implemented
  • Coordinate with database team to ensure the data entry
  • Take photos and draft occasional success stories as identified in the field
  • Reports ideas and information from project staff or field visits, which may assist in future project proposals. Such information will be included in reports.

    • Participate in the different activities that are common to all team members (identification of needs of beneficiaries, internal and/or external referrals)
    • Respect each team member’s positions, work, and specificity
    • Adapt to special situations or demands from supervisor (reporting, etc.)
  • Respect hygiene and security rules
    • The Social worker respects and applies basic hygiene rules
    • She observes at all times strict commitment to Handicap International Security & Safety regulations as per procedures in place at mission level
    • She supports information internal dissemination to relevant focal persons at mission level aiming at reinforcing security and safety of Handicap International staff and assets
    • Considers safety and security in the field for the team and the beneficiaries.
    • Immediately report all incidents to the project Officer/Manager.
  • Demonstrate an ethics and professional practice:
    • Show professional ethics, respect and promote Handicap International mandate
    • Among others, she respects beneficiary’s privacy and confidentiality (she only shares medical information with medical staff/persons directly involved in beneficiary’s care)
    • Respect the Handicap International protection of children policy and protection of beneficiaries from sexual exploitation and abuse policy and report to your line manager any non-respect of HI’s policies amongst the teams or partners.
    • Always interact with children with the presence of their parents or caregivers
 

Job Requirements

Knowledge required

Essential

  • 12th class graduate
  • 1-2 years experiences within the livelihood activities.
  • Ability to establish contacts and working relationships with partners and organizations.
  • Good communication skills
  • Strong comprehension of the needs of persons with disabilities and elder population
  • Strong skills in community mobilization.

Desirable:

  • University Degree (highly desirable)
  • Familiar with MS Office (Word, Excel) and internet

Skills required

Essential

  • Excellent written & spoken in Dari and Pashto
  • Written and spoken English is an asset
  • Ability to work with different type of beneficiaries
  • Strong interpersonal, communication skills and active listening skills
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Able to work both independently and in a multicultural team environment
  • Able to work under pressure and in unstable environment
