Job Description

Job Summary:

The post-holder will monitor Karez cleaning, trench excavation, canal cleaning and any other relevant job in the Zabul province under the supervision of the Provincial Engineer. Since these are CFW activities, the site engineer will collaborate closely with the villagers to offer technical support and guarantee the project's proper execution at the targeted sites.

List the main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Contribute to developing a project monitoring plan and conducting regular monitoring visits to ensure project activities are on track.
  • Oversee and monitor the Karez cleaning, trench excavation, and canal cleaning activities carried out by the villagers as part of the cash-for-work program.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the villagers to ensure the proper execution of the cleaning and excavation tasks.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety regulations, and project specifications.
  • Evaluate the progress of the work and identify any issues or obstacles that may impact the quality or timeline of the project.
  • Coordinate with the project team to schedule and prioritize cleaning and excavation activities.
  • Collaborate with the community leaders and local authorities to ensure the smooth implementation of the cash-for-work program.
  • Train and educate the villagers on proper cleaning and excavation techniques to enhance their skills and efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records of the work progress, including daily reports, labors attendance record, work orders, and inspection findings.
  • Communicate effectively with the project team, villagers, and stakeholders to address any concerns or queries related to the project.
  • Ensure that cross-cutting issues such as gender, climate change, environment and disaster risk reduction are considered
  • record-keeping, conducting a risk analysis, and developing mitigation measures.
  • Communicate and follow-up findings of monitoring visits with the Provincial engineer
  • Conduct regular field monitoring visit specially with stakeholders

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field. Knowledge of Karez systems, trench excavation techniques, and canal cleaning processes.
  • At least two years of experience in overseeing and monitoring cleaning and excavation activities in infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with engineering standards, safety regulations, and project specifications.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and support to individuals with varying levels of skill and experience.
  • Excellent report writing skills and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with the villagers and project stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, content management systems, and social media platforms.
  • Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse and community oriented.
  • Can effectively communicate in local languages.
  • Willing to travel to project areas.
