Job Description

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

 

NAC will (as an implementing partner with UNICEF) implement a Global Partnership for Education (GPE) Accelerated Funding, one-year Community-Based Education (CBE) and school wash project in 11 districts in Badakhshan. The project will be implemented in Jurm, Kohistan, Raghestan, Yaftal-e-Payan , Yawan, Daraim, Wardoj, Teshkan, Shohadah, Yamgan and Share buzarg districts and will consist of: the establishment of CBE classes in hard-to reach (HTR) communities; training of school Shuras; teacher training and provision of learning materials; and provision of water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) supplies to CBEs and schools.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

 

The Senior Support Teachers (Mentor) are responsible for day-to-day implementation of the GPE CBE and school project, which will be managed from NAC’s Faizabad Regional Office and Yawan Field Office. S/he will be responsible for mobilization of communities, establishment of CBE classes and Shuras, supervision and mentorship of CBEs and schools, training of teachers and school Shura members, tracking of progresses (including successes and challenges), distribution of education materials and supplies to students, teachers, schools and communities.

 

General Responsibilities

  • Asist the project manager in preparing monthly and weekly project operation plans in accordance with the overall project implementation plan.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision and support for the education assistants/trainers in conducting their work.
  • Conduct needs assessments in targeted schools and contribute towards identifying out of school children (OOSC) in participating communities.
  • Establish CBE classes in the HTR communities in the five targeted districts of Badakhshan, in consultation with hub schools and community elders. 
  • Mobilize communities, school Shuras and teachers in the implementation of education activities.
  • Support and/or conduct training for new teachers and CBE/school Shura members.
  • Support the distribution of supplies and materials to targeted groups in schools and CBEs and ensure proper records/documentation of the distribution process.
  • Support the M&E officer in timely preparation and updating of the project’s student database and related records.
  • Ensure accountability to the affected populations through follow up of targeted schools and communities in cooperation with NAC’s M&E staff.
  • Ensure that all terms and conditions agreed in the signed MoU with the Ministry of education (MOE) are adhered to through the life of the project and any changes are communicated in a timely manner.
  • Manage the process of developing linkages with local education committees, Shuras, and community elders to obtain maximum support in assessment, provision of suitable CBE spaces and training venues, community contribution, security, and sustainability.
  • Any other relevant tasks assigned by project manager and head of the region.   
 

Job Requirements

Languages Required:

  •  Dari (reading, writing, and speaking)
  • English (reading, writing and speaking)

 

Qualifications Required:

  • Minimum of 2 – 3 years of working experience in education.
  • ‌Bachelor’s degree in social science and education.
  • Good MS Office knowledge (Ms Word, Excel and Power Point)
  • Locals will be preferred

 

Work Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 2 – 3 years of working experience in education.

 

Skills Required:

  • Able to travel to hard-to-reach and conflict affected communities. 
  • Sensitivity to religious, cultural and gender issues in the local context, and for targeted districts in Badakhshan in particular.
  • Ability to provide leadership, mentorship and support to colleagues and project participants.
  • Ability to critically analyze and provide constructive recommendations.
  • Good analytical, communication, facilitation and presentation, and report writing skills.
  • Strong sense of personal initiative, problem-solving skills, teamwork, creativity, and innovation
