About SPARK
SPARK develops higher education and entrepreneurship, so that young ambitious people are empowered to lead their conflict-affected society into prosperity. SPARK is a dynamic and growing not-for-profit development organisation with 100+ staff members, which supports young entrepreneurs to start or grow their own businesses. SPARK provides displaced youth and women with access to higher education in fragile areas. SPARK specifically focuses its intervention on localization through building the capacities of local partners and stakeholders, green entrepreneurship, digitalization, and women entrepreneurship.
SPARK is an international non-profit organization based in the Netherlands. SPARK has worked in several dozen conflicts affected countries in the world. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands has supported SPARK since its inception year 1994 to date.
In collaboration with local partners we provide young people with the tools they need to succeed in regions affected by conflict, climate crisis, and displacement. Together with our local partners we implement six services that empower students and entrepreneurs to study, work and grow their own businesses.
SPARK is exploring the possibility to support agribusiness and food production and processing capabilities in Afghanistan. SPARK will carry out an assessment to determine the key regions affected by food insecurity and the specific conditions and socio-economic situation/factors that lead Afghan citizens to become susceptible to food insecurity. We will pay attention to the major drivers of food security, including food availability, food access, food utilisation and food stability throughout different regions of the country. The general objective is to determine whether there is potential to design a programme to support sustainable food security in Afghanistan by building capacity and scaling activities of tested local (Afghan) partner organisations and scale up domestic food production and processing in the country.
SPARK is an international development organisation with more than 28 years of experience in supporting entrepreneurship development in fragile states. Soon we will start implementing a new programme in Afghanistan.
