Overview of position

Treatment of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) is one of the key components of PND activities serviced through BPHS NGOS. It is primarily implemented in the emergency affected provinces where the prevalence of SAM is high. The services will be expanded as part of emergency response once there is emergency induced SAM cases. Therapeutic nutrition supplies (e.g F-75, F-100 and RUTF) are core elements of the services. PND manage the overall supply chain including forecasting, requesting, distributing, and collecting the reports on a quarterly basis.

Purpose of the post:

The main objective of this assignment is to support PND to manage quality IMAM services delivery as inpatient care and outpatient care. Also, to manage the therapeutic supply and minimize the nutrition supply stock outs through improved nutrition supply management system. The technical assistance will also be responsible for emergency related activities in PND including coordinating with Nutrition cluster. 

Job Description

nder the direct supervision of the Programme Officer (DRR), the Senior Programme Associate (DRR-NBS/CCA) will provide assistance to the SNFI-DRR Programme and other relevant units in disaster risk management. The selected candidate will focus on enhancing natural-based solutions (NBS) and climate change adaptation (CCA) activities through advising and improving these initiatives as outlined in the tasks below.

 

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

 

  1. Assist to develop internal principles for best practice nature-based solutions and climate change adaptation within IOM's DRR Programme, collaborating with various relevant units (i.e. Durable solutions, WASH, and Infrastructure) and regional offices.
  2. Undertake an analysis of IOM's nature-based solutions and climate change adaptation potentials involving water resource management, revegetation, climate, and disaster areas to recommend ways to harmonize efforts and increase impact.
  3. Explore collaborations with local partners to enhance capacity building and leverage international and local expertise in order to develop and implement effective nature-based solutions and techniques for climate change adaptation.
  4. Collaborate with colleagues throughout the Programmes to promote understanding and adoption of the UN's definition of nature-based solutions and the implementation of related projects.
  5. Provide support across IOM Programmes and IOM regional Offices, to develop and validate the environmental social framework that addresses social, economic, and environmental challenges.
  6. Coordinate with M&E team to monitor the adherence to the environmental and safety policies in the field operation in line with the IOM and donor policies.
  7. Work effectively with CBDRM and DRMI team leaders to incorporate NBS and CCA concepts into the conventional DRR programming and develop the needed tools accordingly.
  8. Support Programme Officer (DRR) in the development of concept notes, proposal, reporting and best practices within the organization for nature-based solutions and climate change adaptation projects.
  9. Undertake other duties that may be assigned by the line manager.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications and Experience

 

Education

 

Bachelor's degree in in a relevant field such as environmental, civil, or agricultural engineering, disaster management, community development, or public health with at least four years of relevant professional experience

 

Or

 

High school/College Diploma in the above field of studies with 6 years of relevant professional experience.

 

Experience

 

  • Experience in the environmental and natural based interventions, including:

Water resource management, revegetation, and eco-diversity.

  • Experience in the usage of office software packages (MS word, excel etc.)
  • Experience in conducting training workshops and developing training materials.
  • A strong understanding of disaster risk management principles, community-based approaches to disaster preparedness, and local government structures.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to different communities within the program area.

 

 

SKILLS

 

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as strong interpersonal and facilitation skills.
  • The ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people and build partnerships is also essential.
  • Proficiency in Engineering codes including IBC, ASCE, and ASTM.
  • Familiarity with Survey Engineering tools such as Total station, level machine, and GPS.
  • Knowledge in MS Office, Auto Cad and other construction related software.
  • Experience with Planning and scheduling software’s such as MS project.
  • The candidate must be willing to reside and work in designated areas and work overtime if necessary.

 

Languages

 

  • For all Applicants, fluency in English is required (oral and written).
  • Working knowledge of Pashto or Dari is required.
  • Fluency in all national language(s) are highly advantages.
