Medair Afghanistan has been operating since 1996 and currently works in three provinces: Daykundi, Uruzgan, and Kandahar. The country's main office is in Kabul, with multiple field offices. Medair implements WASH, Food Security, Health and Nutrition programming.

Job Description

Overall  Purpose: 

  • Manage the warehouse of a Medair field base containing project and base items
  1. All in and out movements are recorded according to procedure
  2. All goods are stored in a safe, clean and orderly manner according to requirements
  • Take responsibility for the maintenance of the base, including safety measures.
  • Procure items as requested from the local market

 

Proejct Overview: 

An Integrated Emergency Response: Medair aims to respond to high levels of food insecurity, malnutrition and morbidity in Kandahar’s districts, which have been significantly affected by drought and conflict conditions, as well as economic hardship. Medair has been present in Kandahar Province since 2014 and in Afghanistan since 1996. Its current project intends to improve and extend utilization of lifesaving preventive and curative nutrition and health services to mothers, PLWs and children U5, operating through mobile teams and support to fixed health facilities; to increase access to clean water, to reduce vulnerability to water-related and other preventable diseases, and to improve and increase food security for the most vulnerable families through cash / food voucher distributions.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Assist Project team with field level logistics
  • Project Administration tasks at base
  • Contribute to efficient and accurate base logistics

 

Stock Management

  • Issue stock according to Stock Requests on a daily basis.
  • Update stock cards with in and out movement of the warehouse
  • Provide weekly and monthly stock reports
  • Carry out monthly physical inventory of all stock items
  • Weekly reconciliation with programs teams of the issued stock compared to distribution lists
  • Create loss reports when applicable
  • Replenishment of project items according to agreed safety stocks
  • Communicate proactively about stock expiry

 

Base & Safety Management

  • Carry out minor repairs at the base as required
  • Monthly check on security measurements (i.e. fire extinguishers, locks, smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors)
  • Monthly check on base first aid kits for expired items or need for restocking
  • Monitor the staff movements and adjust the facility needs (accommodation and food) accordingly.
  • Keep track on generator regular maintenance/Logbook.  

 

Procurement

  • Daily procurement of food items for the office
  • Procurement of items as requested by the project or logistics team.

 

Travel

  • Assist in ensuring vehicles are ready for drop off / pick up of staff working on non-project activities (moving to/from the airport, completing logistics tasks, coordination meeting attendance, etc).

 

General

  • Cover for the Senior Logistics Supervisor during leave.
  • Participate constructively in team meetings
  • Contribute to the maintenance of good relations between all departments in Medair’s Kandahar team and between Medair’s logistics teams in different locations.

Job Requirements

 

PERSON REQUIREMENTS:

Educational Background

  • High School diploma
  • Higher level qualification in a technical field such logistics / supply chain, business administration

 

Relevant Experience

  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience with excellent references
  • Experience doing Logistics work with international NGOs

 

Language Skills

  • Fluent Pashto speaker
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Fluent in English with technical vocabulary
