Job Description

ABOUT THE JOB

Providing mine/ERW risk education to Afghan returnees for the purpose of raising their awareness and promoting behavioral change towards mine/ERW and reducing the risk of injury from mines and ERW.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Conduct MRE training in the assigned UNHCR encashment center or communities according to MRE SOP in close cooperation with UNHCR and MRE team leader.
  • Be responsible for MRE training material condition and quantities designated for the team.
  • Provide practical presentation of mine/ERW models, marking system, minefield and battlefield and adjust the presentation with the audience.
  • Explain the aim of short MRE films to the trainees.
  • Provide mine/ERW risk awareness in mine/ERW impacted communities in case the return process is on hold for more than three days or EC is closed due to any reason.
  • He/she should be able to conduct MRE sessions both in Pashto and Dari languages.
  • He/she will do an evaluation of understanding to ascertain whether returnees have understood the dangers associated with mine and UXO. If the returnee’s level of understanding is assessed as being below 60% then that individual and/or individuals will receive further tuition from the MRE team.
  • Keep a record of daily, weekly, and monthly MRE activities and report to the MRE team leader accordingly.
  • Report the progress daily, weekly, and monthly to the DDG MRE team leader.
  • Maintain daily communication with the MRE team leader according to the SOP.
  • Report to RO DMAC on any newly discovered mine accidents, incidents, SHAs, mines, and UXOs through the MRE team leader.
  • Collect and compile UXO hotline information during community visits and share it with the MRE team leader on the spot.
  • Ensure good communication and coordination with UNHCR, team members, and local communities.
  • Follow up on DDG operational and UNHCR work plan.
  • Brief the visitors, MRE coordinator and internal/external QA with regards to MRE work and any information gathered about returnees.
  • Carry out any other tasks assigned by the MRE Coordinator.
  • Liaise, assist and coordinate with other MRE Instructors in the field.

  • 2 years’ experience in MRE (Mine Risk Education)
  • A good knowledge of liaison and communication

 

Education/qualifications:

  • High school

 

Languages:

 

  • Pashto and Dari –fluency
  • English – preferred
  • Computer – preferred
