NCA Afghanistan is currently working on Climate Resilient WASH, Climate Smart Economic Empowerment, Humanitarian Response, Learning and Social Development, Integrated Community Resilience Action (ICRA) project and Civil Society capacity building.

Job Description

List the main tasks and responsibilities for this position:

  • Work with the NCA’s implementing partner to ensure that organizational management capacity of local shuras are enhanced through conducting relevant trainings on the following themes:
    • Organisational management & local governance
    • Social cohesion, mediation, negotiation and conflict resolution,
    • DRR,
    • ecosystem-based adaptation and natural resource management, and
    • gender mainstreaming and women’s rights from the perspective of Islam.
  • Work with the partners to ensure that implementation plan for capacity building of  local shuras are prepared and implemented in context sensitive way.
  • Work on developing relevant trainings materials for building the capacity of local shuras on relevant aforementioned themes
  • Work with M&E team to develop local shuras capacity building and training tracking system so that the information on the trainings and other details are regularly updated into the system
  • Provide regular and constantly required updates as and when requested on the progress, status and other issues pertaining to local shuras’ capacity building
  • Work with the relevant partners to ensure that data and information on the capacity building of local shuras are updated and entered into the tracking system
  • Provide relevant guidance and advice to the trainers, community mobilizers and other relevant stakeholders engaged in building capacity of local shuras
  • Document success stories, photos, and other evidence based information to be featured through NCA’s internal portals and platforms including Yammer
  • Work with the partners to ensure that the local shuras are assisted technically in conducting relevant sessions producing the following local development plans:
    • Local investment plan
    • Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) & Ecosystem-Based Adaptation (DRR &Eba) plan
    • Women & Youth Development Plan
  • Worked with and supporting the relevant partners to conduct sessions and meetings with local shuras to prepare and developed the mentioned plans
  • Prepare guidelines and templates for local development plans to ensure that local shuras can use those formats and guidelines in preparing the plans
  • Provide supervision and technical support to implementing partners to ensure that they implement social cohesion activities in effective manner
  • Work with the partners to make sure that relevant information including updates, and reports on social cohesion component are provided on regularly and timely basis
  • Prepare success stories reflecting achievements and impact with regard to the implementation of trainings and local development plans etc.
  • Review and provide feedback to Implementing Partners on monthly and quarterly reports
  • Translate some documents including training materials, manuals and other project related documents into English and local languages
  • Preparing training materials on relevant social cohesion topics such as mediation, conflict resolution, social harmony and coexistence
  • Provide the technical support to implementing partners to ensure that PEARL project and its activities are implemented in conflict sensitive way ensurng that Do No Harm principle is upheld during design and implementation stage
  • Support the implementing partners to conduct a quick mapping of religious actors in the targeted districts
  • Any other activities and tasked as deemed essential and relevant to the assignment.

 

Detail the main expectations for this position over the next period in regard to strategic targets and plans:

NCA is looking for two experienced, skilled, and self motivated Social Cohesion Officers to join our team. The post holder, to be successful, should be experienced and have technical knowledge of social cohesion, local peacebuilding and community engagement and be able to work under pressure to meet demanding deadlines. The post holder should also think creatively, and have excellent organization and interpersonal skills.

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in conflict resolution, Islamic studies, sociology or any other relevant social science
  • A minimum of five (5) years of previous experience in the areas of social cohesion, community-based conflict resolutions, community development, capacity building
  • Can effectively communicate in English and the local languages.
  • Must be willing to travel to project areas
  • Strong working knowledge of word processing software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
