Job Description

The Provincial Project Manager will have a crucial role in the execution of the child protection project in Urozgan Province, Afghanistan. Operating under the supervision of the Project Manager, Provincial KRO Coordinator and Project Coordinator, Provincial Manger will be accountable for Management and coordination of project activities in Urozgan province. Additionally, the Provincial Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring the smooth implementation of project activities.

Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure the smooth and quality implementation of child protection projects on-going in Urozgan province.
  2. To better serve children in the community, the Provincial Manger will ensure the integration between sectors is improved through proactive communication with the, Project Coordinator, Kro Provincial Coordinator, Project Manager and other sectors on site locations and activities
  3. Provide technical inputs and lead various assessments, researches and assessments on Child Protection issues.
  4. Supervise Monitoring officers, Social Workers and CFS’s facilitators activities.
  5. Coordinate all CP project activities in Urozgan province.
  6. Develop work plans, monitor progress and present monthly progress reports (monthly, quarterly & annual) to Line manager, ensure effective documentation of program and progress by capturing lessons learnt and good practices.
  7. Work with the Monitoring and Evaluation focal person to ensure that information related to child protection is stored, analyzed and used by program support unit as well as the implementation team.
  8. Continue to develop understanding on children’s meaningful participation throughout the program and develop/implement strategies to enable children to identify and address the issues of concern to them and promote their voices in local level.
  9. Conduct coordination meetings with subordinates, KRO Provincial Coordinator, Line Manger, Project Managers, government authorities and other relevant personals for smooth and well implementation of the project activities.
  10. Undertake specific trainings in child protection and PSEA for program implementation team and then ensure that the latter train children, partners and community-based child protection networks/partners.
  11. Undertake specific trainings in child protection and PSEA for the beneficiaries specified in the DIP and ensure they are applying in during their participation in coordination meetings.
  12. Review the program related documents, reports and detailed implementation plans to ensure that child protection issues and child rights approaches are integrated.
  13. Represent the organization in child protection forums at the provincial level.
  14. Represent organization in local Protection Cluster and all working groups on protection.
  15. Work with appropriate stakeholders within the child protection sector to ensure that children’s rights are considered in the process of legislation formation and institution building.
  16. Report any child safeguarding and PSEA concerns to Kandahar Refugee Organization PSEA focal point considering the Child protection and PSEA policy.
  17. Adhere to the organization code of conduct in professional and personal life and report breaches of the code to the appropriate persons. 
  18. Supervision of overall Program activities in Urozgan Province.
  19. Any other tasks relate to child protection programs given by line manager

Job Requirements

  1. 5 years project management experience, preferably gained within a development setting with an experience of working within a Child Protection team or on a Child Protection project,
  2. Relevant university degree (preferably MA) in social work, social sciences, development or other relevant field (relevant and significant work experience will also be considered)
  3. Excellent knowledge and skills in child rights, child protection, child/youth/community resilience, psychosocial support, community/youth development and mobilization, especially in an emergency context 
  4. Experience working with at-risk children and families,
  5. Experience of remote managing programmes in complex settings
  6. Proven capacity to coordinate, and coach staff in Child Protection skills and programme management
  7. Experience of, commitment to working through systems of community participation and accountability
  8. Strong knowledge of child protection principles, international standards and best practices.
  9. Familiarity with the context and cultural dynamics of Urozgan Province is highly desirable.
  10. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish effective working relationships with project staff, partners, and community members.
  11. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, with a high level of self-motivation and initiative.
  12. Fluency in English, Pashto and Dari is required, both written and spoken.
