Background:

Help – Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe” is a German non-governmental charity-organization duly registered with the courts of law in Germany and in several host countries, such as Afghanistan and Iran. Help was founded in 1981 by concerned Members of Parliament of all parties represented in the German Parliament. We started providing humanitarian assistance for Afghan refugees in Pakistan and Iran, and soon extended to development-oriented activities. We provide aid and development-support regardless of race, creed or nationality. Priorities are set on the basis of need and upon the request from partners and vulnerable communities to cooperate fairly and transparently.

Job Description

Job summary:

The Project Manager ensure that the most appropriate and relevant methods are used for successful project implementation. S/he will work under the direct supervision of the program manager. Project manager is responsible for the overall managing, planning and overseeing project to ensure they are completed in a timely manner and within budget. S/he will plan and designate project resources, prepare budgets, monitor progress, and keep stakeholders informed the entire way.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Coordinate the project with the stakeholders including with the governmental departments in      Herat, Badghis, Farah, and Ghor provinces.
  • Prepare monthly action plans.
  • Adopting any delegation and use of project assurance roles within agreed reporting structures.
  • Preparing and maintaining project, stage, and exception plans as required.
  • Contributing to the structure of the development projects in districts and supervise the progress.
  • Following up with the requests referred by Local Project Coordinators.
  • Coordinating all field visits with the implementing partner,  
  • Listing the equipment’s/facilities needed.
  • Taking care of security matters/measures for both staff and facilities of the projects in the field.
  • Preparing budget draft for the upcoming year.
  • Managing project risks, including the development of contingency plans.
  • Liaison with program management (if the project is part of a programme) and related projects to ensure that work is neither overlooked nor duplicated.
  • Applying change control and configuration management processes
  • Reporting through agreed lines on project progress through highlight reports and end-stage assessments.
  • Maintaining an awareness of potential interdependencies with other projects and their impact
  • Adopting and applying appropriate technical and quality strategies and standards.
  • Identifying and obtaining support and advice required for the management, planning and control of the project
  • Managing project administration
  • Conducting a project evaluation review to assess how well the project was managed.
  • Preparing any follow-on action recommendations.

Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Business Administration/Economics. Candidates with relevant Master’s degree will be given the priority;
  • Familiar with the context of emergency projects;
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in project management with national and                   international NGOs and/or a relevant field;
  • Having excellent oral and written communication skills in English, Dari and Pashto
  • Excellent managerial, communication and interpersonal, and problem-solving skill strong
  • Excellent writing skills in English
  • Initiative and results-oriented mindset
  • Knowledge of developing documents
  • Strong independent work ethic
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to thrive in fast-faced work environment
  • Willingness and ability to learn

 

  Work Environment

  • The position is based in Herat with frequent travels to Badghis, Ghor & Farah provinces.
