Job Description

Position summary:

The Program Officer- CSO & Youth Engagement is an important and integral part of the War Child Canada’s Program Implementation team. The position holder will be responsible to work closely with the Project Manager on all CSO related activities under the UNFPA granted project. He/she will lead to engage, train, and provide technical assistance to Youth Civil Societies organizations including Peer-networks to advocate for the elimination of Gender Based Violence including elimination of early and child marriage practices in the relevant communities. He/she will be responsible to develop a strategy including an action plan for the advocacy and awareness raising on the relevant issues and as well to organize monthly meetings with the relevant CSOs and stakeholders. Also, he/she will manage granting and implementation of the small-scale awards to CSOs.                                                                                     

Specific duties and responsibilities:

  • Meeting with CSO alliance and assess their existing capacity related to advocacy on GBV and elimination of forced child and early marriages,
  • Review and refine existing training modules for CSO training,
  • develop a strategy including an action plan for the advocacy and awareness raising on the relevant issues,
  • Conduct a training on advocacy for CSO representatives and youth activists,
  • Develop an action plan for the advocacy and supervise the implementation of the plan,
  • Conduct monthly meetings with CSOs to discuss the progress, key achievements, and barriers toward effective advocacy on the issues related to GBV and elimination of early and child marriage,
  • Release call for applications to the CSOs alliance,
  • Receive and review small grants application from CSOs,
  • Award small grants to the CSOs,
  • Provide technical support and monitor the implementation of small grant projects implementing by CSOs,
  • Orient CBPM members with SRHR and engage them in elimination of GBV including forced, early and child marriages, and
  • Provide technical assistance to other programs as requested.
  • File reports for activities and accomplishments on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, or as otherwise assigned.
  • Prepare and submit reports to the project manager.
  • Maintain all the CSOs related documents on regular bases.
 

Job Requirements

Academic Background and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in the relevant field (law, social science)
  • Should have 4 to 5 years working experience in Civil Society Engagement, capacity building, advocacy, research, and assessment preferably with INGOs

Skills

  • Excellent in written and verbal English with good analytical and critical thinking skills. 
  • Dari or Pashtu is mandatory

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Flexibility and ability to work under pressure and meeting of deadlines
