Background: DAI, a private company, seeks candidates for ongoing multi-year humanitarian assistance initiatives in Afghanistan. Our programs create jobs, enhance value chains, and support businesses to improve the livelihoods of Afghan citizens in a variety of traditional industries and services including carpet production, light manufacturing, food processing, agriculture/agribusiness development, livestock development, and training. We support private businesses, farming communities, and individuals who need to learn job skills and trade production improvement techniques.
The overall objective of this assignment is to enhance the technical knowledge and skills of the technical team of Sancharak Oqab in improved feed formulation practices.
Tasks (Performance Requirements): The Poultry Feed Formulation Expert (STTA) is mainly responsible for developing comprehensive training material and training the technical team of Sancharak Oqab in improved feed formulation practices, along with this:
• Conduct a quick assessment of the poultry feed production practices and facility and identify areas that require improvement.
• Prepare the training material based on the findings and provide recommendations to improve feed production.
• Train the firm staff in standard poultry feed formulation and production methods.
• Train staff on selecting the best quality raw materials for pellet feed; appropriate storage of raw materials; storage of processed materials; proper sanitation and hygiene practices; and methods to ensure a safe working environment for staff.
• Test the existing feed machinery to ensure all components are correctly calibrated and functioning well.
• Provide weekly updates on work progress to AVC-Livestock Chief of Party or his designee.
• Master’s or bachelor’s degree in veterinary, animal science, agricultural science, or other relevant areas.
• Master’s degree with three (3) years of experience or bachelor's degree with four (4) years of experience in feed formulation and production.
• Proven technical knowledge and skills in feed formulation and feed production.
• Strong writing, communication, and training skills
• Work experience with international companies, organizations, and NGOs is preferred.
• Fluent Pashto and Dari.
• Proficiency in written English is required.
