Overview of position

Treatment of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) is one of the key components of PND activities serviced through BPHS NGOS. It is primarily implemented in the emergency affected provinces where the prevalence of SAM is high. The services will be expanded as part of emergency response once there is emergency induced SAM cases. Therapeutic nutrition supplies (e.g F-75, F-100 and RUTF) are core elements of the services. PND manage the overall supply chain including forecasting, requesting, distributing, and collecting the reports on a quarterly basis.

Purpose of the post:

The main objective of this assignment is to support PND to manage quality IMAM services delivery as inpatient care and outpatient care. Also, to manage the therapeutic supply and minimize the nutrition supply stock outs through improved nutrition supply management system. The technical assistance will also be responsible for emergency related activities in PND including coordinating with Nutrition cluster. 

Job Description

Afghanistan and Pakistan are the world’s remaining polio-endemic countries. In 2024, as of January 9, Afghanistan reported 6 WPV1 reported in Eastern region and 62 environmental cases in Eastern Region, Kunar and Nangarhar provinces. These results confirm the need for continues community engagement efforts, especially engagement of influencers with a particular focus on previously inaccessible areas, high-risk districts, and areas where children are still missed mainly those refusing uptake of vaccine due to many aspects such as low awareness, misconception, operational challenges etc., and proper management of vaccines and cold chain systems.

Afghanistan faces ongoing polio transmission due to limited access, resistance in high-risk districts, and vaccine hesitancy. Existing community engagement needs a boost. The trainer expert to equip the Polio ICN staff with the knowledge and skills to effectively engage communities, address concerns, and ultimately contribute to polio eradication.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualification and Experience:

▪        University degree in social science, medical science, public health, midwifery, or nursing. Bachelor’s degree in Sharia/Law/Theology, philosophy, anthropology, and/or behavior communication is preferable. Experience in the Polio programme is given priority.

▪        3-5 years' experience in mentioned areas – working with community-based structures, advocacy, and health promotion

▪        Fluent in English, Pashto, and Dari

▪        Good computer skills

Ability to travel to remote and far to access areas
