The USAID funded Urban Health Initiative (UHI) Program’s goal is to improve health outcomes of people living in urban areas, particularly focusing on the health of women and children and other vulnerable populations. Interventions aim to increase demand, access and quality of health services. Lead by Jhpiego and implemented by a dynamic consortium of organizations, UHI is implemented in five cities in Afghanistan – Kabul, Herat, Mazar-e-Sharif, Jalalabad and Kandahar.
Position Overview
Gyn/Obs specialist will be based in the prioritized UHI HFs and as a gynecologist, she will keep abreast of
the latest developments in gynecology and use the best available treatments on patients. Ultimately, an
exceptional gynecologist should be able to demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills and ensure that
doctor-patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
Position Reports To: Associate Cluster Manager,
Location: Kabul
Responsibilities
Attend OPD and performing examinations on patients to diagnose various obstetric and
gynecological conditions.
Recording and updating patients' medical histories.
Advising patients on suitable birth control options.
Performing various diagnostic tests on patients, which include Pap smears, STD tests,
ultrasounds, hormone profile blood tests, colposcopies, and endometrial biopsies.
Explaining test results, diagnoses, and treatment options to patients.
Performing surgeries and gynecological procedures on patients, such as CS, dilation and
curettages, hysterectomy.
Referring patients to other healthcare specialists as needed.
Educating patients on reproductive health issues and disease prevention.
Job Requirements:
Qualification Required:
Specialization on Ob/Gyn
At least two years of experience in a similar position
Abilities/Skills:
Ability to work successfully in teams, across a diverse team in a complex environment with multiple
tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform
Strong skills in facilitation, team building and coordination
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including strong writing, analytical and
communication skills in Dari, Pashtu and English (preferable)
