Medair Afghanistan has been operating since 1996 and currently works in three provinces: Daykundi, Uruzgan, and Kandahar. The country's main office is in Kabul, with multiple field offices. Medair implements WASH, Food Security, Health and Nutrition programming.
Overall Purpose
To be a member of a Health & Nutrition team providing integrated health & nutrition services to targeted communities. The Nutrition Nurse will deliver appropriate treatment for malnourished children under 5 years and pregnant and lactating women (PLWs) following National IMAM, and IYCF guidelines. The Nutrition Nurse is responsible for taking history, conducting physical examination of children under 5 years, identifying PLW and care takers who require Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) counselling and making appropriate referrals. The Nutrition Nurse provides treatment and/or refer beneficiaries in the nutrition program, provide nutrition, health, hygiene education and IYCF counselling to PLWs and care takers of children. Nutrition Nurse is required to assist the Health Assistant on screening children under 5 years and PLW using MUAC tape, weight and Height following National IMAM, IMIYCN, MNCI and IYCF guidelines and record keeping amongst other activities
Project Overview
Medair is implementing an integrated IMAM, PHC (IMNCI, ANC, PNC & FP) and IYCF project in Kandahar Province. Medair’s Health and Nutrition project in Kandahar Province is designed to increase access to quality of life saving PHC and nutrition services for underserved communities, through integrated mobile health and nutrition teams (MHNT). This includes treatment of most common coexisting childhood illness, RH (ANC, PNC & FP) and treatment of malnutrition and other causes of morbidity and mortality, management of acute malnutrition in children under 5 years and pregnant and lactating women, increasing access to routine immunisations through referrals to the nearby health facility, treatment of communicable disease for children U5 and PSS. The project promotes improved Maternal Infant and Child Nutrition (MIYCN) practices and health and hygiene behaviours linked to unnecessary deaths amongst vulnerable populations. The project also aims to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 and reduce the impact of COVID-19 on health and nutrition outcomes of women and children.
