About Concern Worldwide- Afghanistan

Identity: Concern Worldwide is a non-governmental, international, humanitarian organization dedicated to the reduction of suffering and working towards the ultimate elimination of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest countries. Currently, Concern has been working in Afghanistan since 1998, when it responded to an earthquake disaster in Takhar province.  Currently Concern has been working in Takhar and Badakhshan provinces undertaking both emergency response and long term developmental work in the areas of livelihood security, primary education and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.

Job Description

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Effective Project Technical Oversight

  • Maintain an overview of the regional and country nutrition context with a view to strategically develop new integrated mult-sectoral projects.  
  • Provide technical advice and make recommendations on potential expansion in new areas and internal nutrition capacity for implementation.
  • Conduct regular field monitoring visits to ensure project objectives are being met, provide technical support to the field team to ensure high quality project implementation.
  • Support evaluation and impact analysis of current projects through regular data analysis and provide feedback to relevant staff, Ministry of Public Health and nutrition partners.

Programme Quality

  • Support technical design of new proposals; ensure project activities are implemented in line with approved proposal and requirements and in accordance with Concern, Ministry of Public Health and international standards.
  • Regularly assess and provide feedback on the quality of programme and interventions during field visits and at other relevant times.
  • Maintain a resource library for the team and keep up-to-date with the latest trends and updates within the sector.

 

Finance Management

  • Work with the project manager to plan and construct nutrition budgets
  • Ensure nutrition project expenditure is in line with approved budget, advising on potential expenses and recommending corrective actions in close collaboration with the Project Manager and Programme Directors

Human Resource Management 

  • Be involved in the recruitment of nutrition staff for the country programme, providing advice on technical skills and experience required.
  • Ensure all nutrition staff are adequately trained and create possibilities for capacity building, mentoring and coaching. Plan and develop training materials as required.
  • Support line managers in induction of new staff

Programme Documentation and Reporting

  • Review project narrative reports both internal and external including donor reports and ensure they are of high quality.
  • Document lessons learnt and best practices to inform project adaptation and future nutrition programming
  • Review and provide technical input on case studies and stories of change to ensure they are of good quality.

Representation and Coordination

  • Develop and maintain relationships with ministry of public health, UN agencies, NGOs and other stakeholders with the objective of raising public awareness of Concern and ensuring good cooperation and partnerships.
  • Represent Concern at national and subnational coordination mechanisms facilitating supportive synergies and avoiding duplication with the work of other agencies.  
  • Work closely with HQ Nutrition Advisor for technical support as and when required in consultation with the Programme Director

Job Requirements

Qualification & Experience  

  • Professional qualification in Medical, Public Health or Nutrition. Preferably master degree.
  • At least 5 years of working experience in relevant field - implementing nutrition (IMAM) programmes
  • Experience of proposal development and budget management.
  • Understanding of the humanitarian emergency operating context, including Sphere, the humanitarian cluster system, etc.
  • Experience in capacity building, mentoring and on-the-job training
  • Experience working in a cross-cultural setting and advanced planning, coordination, analytical and problem solving skills.

Competencies and Personal Attributes

  • Knowledge of computer (MS Office)
  • Excellent working knowledge of the English language (Read, Write, Speak)
  • Training & facilitation skills
  • High quality report writing skill
  • Able to communicate clearly and sensitively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity

Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work both independently and as a member of a team. Strong organizational skills.
