Background
Cure Hospital is primarily a teaching hospital with services in family medicine, internal medicine, paediatrics, OBGYN, pathology, general surgery, plastic surgery and orthopaedics. The paediatric component of Cure Hospital provides care and consultation services for all children treated at the Hospital or the Family Health Centre as inpatients or outpatients whether routinely or in an emergency situation.
Cure Hospital runs a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). These services need the leadership of an experienced paediatrician.
An important function of the Head of Paediatrics is his/her commitment to training others. The MOPH has recognised a 3-year family medicine residency training program and it is the job of the paediatric department to ensure that by the end of these 3-years, all residents are fully competent in the field of paediatrics.
Purpose:
The Head of Paediatrics will be responsible for establishing and maintaining good evidence-based, standards of care for patients, both public and private. He/she will be responsible to train and teach the principles of paediatric and neonatal care along with the necesary techniques to doctors training at Cure Hospital and to oversee the practice of paediatrics by these doctors.
The Paediatrician is also responsible for continuing the improvement in quality of care, education and administration of the department. The Paediatrician will ensure that the paediatric staff provide a quality service and follow any National Guidelines that apply to new-born/ paediatric services in Afghanistan.
Main Responsibilities:
1.To adhere to the values of Cure Hospital.
To maintain a professional attitude and appearance consistent with national nursing practice.
Observe and assess patient condition and care needs continuously.
Stay on-duty until the relieving shift arrives and has been fully updated
Takes appropriate nursing action based on the nursing assessment.
Follows physician orders. Notifies supervisor / physician of changes in patient condition.
Initiates appropriate preventative and rehabilitative nursing
Documents assessments, nursing actions, response and communication.
Reports changes in patient condition to Supervisor and / or Dr
Accepts responsibility for personal and professional accountability and development
Provides ward supervisor with time off requests prior to the next months schedule being completed.
Attends and participates in education in-services as indicated.
Participates in orientation of new nurses upon request. Teaches other nursing personnel as requested or indicated.
Complies with Cure Hospital policies and procedures. Reads and completes Nursing Protocol Handbook within the 2 month probation time. Reports education needs to Supervisor and / or Nurse Trainer.
Provides the patient and family with information regarding the disease process, self-care techniques, and prevention strategies.
Prepares detailed and informative clinical and progress notes as services are provided.
Health promotion and disease prevention included in discharge teaching for all patients.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduated from approved nursing program, certified by Afghanistan MoPH or MOHE
One year nursing experience after graduation
Speaking by Afghanistan official languages
Good English skills.
Ability to communicate clearly and work well with others in a team environment
Able to work in different shifts (day and night)
