About Concern Worldwide- Afghanistan

Identity: Concern Worldwide is a non-governmental, international, humanitarian organization dedicated to the reduction of suffering and working towards the ultimate elimination of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest countries. Currently, Concern has been working in Afghanistan since 1998, when it responded to an earthquake disaster in Takhar province.  Currently Concern has been working in Takhar and Badakhshan provinces undertaking both emergency response and long term developmental work in the areas of livelihood security, primary education and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.

Job Description

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

 Technical Assistance:

  • Develop innovative approaches to improve the income and economic stability of the targeted communities.
  • Technical lead the input distribution for off-farm income generation activities.
  • Technical lead the formation of producer groups.
  • Conduct  ToT on group management, women rights and leadership for the project CDFs and Senior CDFs.
  • Supervise the training of group management, women rights and leadership for the women producer groups.
  • Conduct ToT in rotating savings and loan for the project CDFs and Senior CDFs and ensure the quality provision of training for the women producer groups.
  • In coordination of Agriculture & Livestock officer, provide inputs and equipment to producer groups for post-production processing and value addition.
  • Ensure establishment of On-going market linkage activities as required for specific products and groups.
  • Supervise the awareness raising session on women participations in economic life.
  • Set criteria and identify local producers to receive training and grants vouchers
  • Ensure women participation in all off-farm interventions and developing further capacity building facilities for women economic empowerment
  • Enable producers to cope with distress selling and cut the chain as much as possible between the producer and consumer
  • Ensuring youth and people living with disabilities (PLWD) are included in the program and their specific need and capacity building requirements are regarded
  • Strengthening in the linkage of target beneficiaries with market system and build on their experience of marketing
  • Develop a deeper understanding of the actual barriers to local producers, how the market function for poor and ensure markets are pro-poor.
  • Carry out regular market assessment to identify emerging trends of market, market demands, price fluctuation and market entry barriers and risks, and share with target beneficiaries
  • Improving income generating opportunities  and equip producer groups with necessary skills and capacities to increase return on assets  and increase producer capacity to anticipate and adapt with market changes and avoid, minimize and offset unfavourable changes
  • Develop necessary tools, guidelines and plans to be replicated and rolled out to actively engage with poor people that they achieve sustainable livelihoods
  • Hold necessary training sessions to familiarize producer groups with local value addition, processing to final products and build on their capacities on these issues
  • Exploring the livelihood opportunities other than agriculture and assisting business owners and entrepreneurs to fill the gaps in their business value chains

In Afghanistan we also bounded our activities by Accountability framework and therefore any Afghanistan employees are responsible to comply with CHS principles and benchmarks as instructed by its policies and therefore make sure that you accept and implement CHS standards in all your activities.

Job Requirements

Qualification & Experiences:

  • Graduate of Agriculture University, Agro-business and or Economy.  Master degree is preferred
  • At least 5 years experience in non-farm livelihood programming with INGOs.
  • Local knowledge  and staff management is an advantage

Competencies and skills:

  • Computer skills preferred (MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  • Well Dari and English speaking and writing ability.
  • Ability to work in remote communities throughout Chah-ab  district of Takhar province.
  • Ability to work with community members and spend at least 70% of time in the field as committed.

Reporting and Communication:

  • Develop and submit accurate monthly work plans and reports to Project Manager.
  • Oral and written communication in Dari and other local languages.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Experience using digital devices such as computer and DDG.

Ability to write reports and various correspondence in English language is an advantage.
