The USAID funded Urban Health Initiative (UHI) Program’s goal is to improve health outcomes of people living in urban areas, particularly focusing on the health of women and children and other vulnerable populations. Interventions aim to increase demand, access and quality of health services. Lead by Jhpiego and implemented by a dynamic consortium of organizations, UHI is implemented in five cities in Afghanistan – Kabul, Herat, Mazar-e-Sharif, Jalalabad and Kandahar.
Responsibilities:
- Caring for newborn infants until they are ready to go home
- Providing prenatal care for high-risk infants
- Assisting in premature or problematic deliveries, and helping if complications arise
or if medical attention is necessary immediately after birth
- Care for infants’ nutrition to ensure optimal growth and development, and find
alternative ways to feed infants who struggle with feeding
- Assist with medications and treat infants born with infections
- Perform procedures for infants with breathing difficulties due to underdeveloped or
damaged hearts and lungs
- Provide support to parents and help them to understand and make decisions
regarding their infant’s condition and treatment
- Ensure parents have sufficient opportunities to bond with their infants
- Cooperation in the accurate collection of health information using existing
guidelines and forms
- pursuing the application and compliance of the new standards
Ability, and skills
- graduation from an official faculty of medicine and has a certificate of professional
expertise in the pediatric and newborn
- Proven work experience as a Neonatologist or similar role
- A willingness to work long hours and remain on-call for emergencies
- The ability to work under pressure and stress
- Strong communication skills and patience and empathy toward patients and their families
- Strong dedication and motivation for helping newborn infants
- Relevant training and/or certifications as a Neonatologist
