Job Description

Job Summary:

The Midwife will be responsible for providing midwifery technical assistance throughout the project implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of Family Health Houses. She assumes responsibility and accountability for her practice, applying up-to-date knowledge and skills in caring for each woman and family, Technical assistance will be provided by selecting existing up-to-date guidance documents that are appropriate for FHH’s programs and the development of additional guidance documents as needed. The Midwife will collaborate closely work with FHH staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Community midwives participate in the promotion of health and wellbeing in the community and serve as a link between the community and the health system:
  • Community midwives provide high-quality care for the newborn infant and surveillance and preventive care for young children:
  • Community midwives provide comprehensive, high-quality, culturally-sensitive pre and postnatal care for women:
  • Community midwives provide high-quality, culturally-sensitive care during labour; conduct a clean, safe delivery; give care to the newborn, and manage or refer emergencies effectively to prevent maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity.
  • Provide the necessary supervision, care and advise to women during pregnancy, labour and the postpartum period;
  • Conduct deliveries on her own and care for the newborn infant;
  • Manage complications in pregnancy and childbirth in accordance with the principles of basic emergency obstetric care;
  • Provide primary care to women of reproductive age in accordance with the Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS);
  • Supervise the provision of primary health care within the community by community health workers;
  • Counsel and educate women, the family and the community through interpersonal communication and FHAGs, in relevant areas of health, including preparation for parenthood and childbirth;
  • Conduct regular meetings with community health workers, Community Health Shuras, and FHAGs, take minutes, and act on the decisions taken;
  • Provide all non-surgical methods of family planning, counselling on surgical/ non-surgical methods and make referrals as appropriate;
  • Obtain specialized assistance as necessary (via consultation or referral);
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with higher-level BPHS and Essential Package of Hospital Services (EPHS) facilities;
  • Perform select administrative duties such as patient charting, recording and reporting of data; clinic and/or facility management (as required), and coordinate specific educational or outreach programmes;
  • Participate in research initiatives, professional organizations and related committees, and avail opportunities for continuing education;
  • Follow MoPH policies, procedures and objectives, continuous quality improvement initiatives. safety, environmental, and infection prevention standards;
  • Provide eight hour services at the FHH, and be available for 24/7 maternity services, which may require attendance during the evenings or nights;
  • Support the continuous quality improvement of integrated and stand-alone RMNCAH programs including service delivery in clinical and community-based settings.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the RMNCAH -MoPH strategy at the facility and community-based settings.
 

Job Requirements

  • Graduate from a recognized Midwifery Education institution or Community Midwifery Education (CME);
  • At least 3 years of experience in the related field is required. (Working in clinical sites or FHH);
  • Fluency in Dari/Pashto and knowledge of the English language.

Having updated refresher training certificates in Family Planning, BEmONC, IMNCI.
