The USAID funded Urban Health Initiative (UHI) Program’s goal is to improve health outcomes of people living in urban areas, particularly focusing on the health of women and children and other vulnerable populations. Interventions aim to increase demand, access and quality of health services. Lead by Jhpiego and implemented by a dynamic consortium of organizations, UHI is implemented in five cities in Afghanistan – Kabul, Herat, Mazar-e-Sharif, Jalalabad and Kandahar.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide health education and counseling to women on all aspects in relation to
pregnancy, childbirth, nutrition, hygiene and family planning.
2. Provide care and advice for women during pregnancy. Where the pregnancy is normal,
the midwife is expected to be the main caregiver.
3. Inform and refer the woman to reasonable level of health facility in cases of a high-risk
pregnancy or when complications occur.
4. Provide ANC, PNC and delivery care.
5. Provide total care and support for the woman in labor.
6. Conduct normal and breech deliveries and where necessary, perform episiotomies and
suturing.
7. Perform life saving and emergency measures on the patient where a doctor is not
available, including manual removal of placenta, maternal resuscitation and bimanual
compression of the placenta.
8. Provide the immediate care for the newborn baby and where necessary perform
neonatal resuscitation.
9. Support and advise the mother on infant feeding and vaccination. Promote exclusive
breastfeeding.
10. Maintain and ensure safe storage of all equipment you use. Report faults and damaged
equipment. Ensure safe waste disposable of relevant rooms (used gauze, sharps, D/S
etc).
11. To managing the CS OPD cases dressing and follow up.
12. Organizing, managing and controlling the MNH activities.
13. To keep record and on time report of MNH activities as required.
14. Attending all necessary meetings, workshop and training.
Required Qualifications and experience:
• Graduated from recognized midwifery institute.
• More the 2-year experience in the same position.
Abilities/ skills:
• Fluency spoken written and reading local languages.
• Good interpersonal relation and skills
• Be respectful and proper attitude against the Clients
• Good team worker.
• Keep patient’s confidentiality
