ACDEO has primarily focused on supporting Afghan women and their families in different areas such as Family Support Helpline, Education Promotion and Sustainability Promotion.

Job Description

Overview:

The MHPSS Counselor will be responsible for developing and delivering training programs aimed at building the capacity on Mental Health/hygiene to communities in Kabul and Balkh. This role requires expertise in counseling theory and practices, as well as experience in training delivery and capacity building within the mental health sector.

Duties & Responsibilities of MHPSS Counselor:

  1. Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to address emotional, psychological, and social issues.
  2. Develop and implement intervention plans tailored to the needs of beneficiaries.
  3. Assess the psychosocial needs of individuals and groups.
  4. Document assessments, interventions, and progress in confidential records.
  5. Plan and conduct hygiene awareness sessions focusing on topics such as handwashing, sanitation, and disease prevention.
  6. Develop educational materials and tools to enhance hygiene practices.
  7. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members.
  8. Engage with community leaders, groups, and organizations to promote mental health and hygiene awareness.
  9. Facilitate community meetings and discussions to address concerns and promote best practices.
  10. Ability to conduct survey for identification of eligible beneficiaries for humanitarian response.
  11. Collaborate with other service providers, including health, education, and protection services, to ensure comprehensive support for beneficiaries.
  12. Participate in coordination meetings and contribute to joint planning efforts.
  13. Track and report on the progress of psychosocial and hygiene activities.
  14. Maintain accurate records and prepare regular reports for management and donors.
  15. Use feedback to improve services and address emerging needs.

Job Requirements

Required Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling psychology, clinical psychology, social work, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in counseling practice and training delivery, preferably in humanitarian or development settings.
  • Strong understanding of counseling theories, modalities, and evidence-based practices.
  • Proven experience in curriculum development, training facilitation, and capacity building.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
  • Proficiency in English and Dari/Pashto languages (both written and spoken).
  • Commitment to human rights principles, ethical standards, and confidentiality in counseling practice.
  • Ability to work in and contribute to team building environment.
  • Ability to maintain performance and exemplary lifestyle expectations in diverse cultural contexts, psychologically stressful environments and physical hardship conditions with limited resources.
  • Dari, - Fluent Written & Speaking Essential
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
