About Organization for Women Empowerment

The Organization for Women Empowerment (OWE) was established in 2014 as a non-profit and development organization - registered with the NGO Department of the Ministry of Economy, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. OWE aims to help impoverished communities, particularly women, youth, and children, gain social, economic and political potency by raising awareness, building capacity, educational and vocational skills training, and creating professional opportunities. OWE is a women’s organization for women. OWE's learning experience as a development organization comes from its working association with communities in different areas of Afghanistan. More importantly, OWE is one of the successful organizations in the community, NGO Coordination Bureau, and region.

Project summary:

The proposed project will improve mental health and social well-being of women and girls’ in Afghanistan and will establish strong community based support mechanism for the vulnerable and at risk women through MHPSS and mental health/ treatment support and strengthen their capacity and knowledge on health and hygiene related issues in the conflict and crisis contexts in Afghanistan.

Capacity and IEC materials development and conducting individual PSS counselling session for 75 vulnerable women) in Kunduz Province on how to improved their health condition. Meetings with 50 persons of community influential, religious scholars and women representatives in Kunduz on how to support the vulnerable women and introduce them to the humanitarian actors for further assistance. Providing logistical support and referral services for the vulnerable and poor women including legal advice, counselling, treatment, and other emergency supports services to them are the main activities of this project.

Job Description

  • Conduct psychosocial assessments to understand the emotional and psychological needs of beneficiaries.
  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions to address trauma, stress, and other mental health issues.
  • Develop personalized psychosocial support plans and coping strategies.
  • Educate clients and communities about mental health and stress management.  
  • Conduct mental health awareness sessions and workshops.
  • Promote mental health and well-being through community engagement.
  • Providing quality and appropriate counseling services to clients referred by doctors.
  • Collaborating with doctors in categorizing patients and conducting examinations.
  • Working with various sections of the health center, such as vaccination, maternal and child health, etc., to improve health services.
  • Actively participating in health education sessions.
  • Generating monthly reports on all activities within the relevant department.
  • Ensuring proper hygiene and reasonable use of equipment and resources.
  • Having sufficient knowledge about the Basic Package of Health Services for Afghanistan and implementing them in practice.
  • Achieving targeted objectives. Build relationships with the beneficiary to encourage trust, while listening their needs and concerns
  • Respond to distressed beneficiary in a non-threatening manner and attempt to understand the source of their discomfort
  • Help the beneficiary manage their emotions through de-escalation techniques
  • visit the beneficiary in their home to monitor progress and carry out risk assessments with regard to their safety and welfare
  • Provide psychoeducation sessions for MHPSS beneficiary and their respective families

Job Requirements

  • Graduated from the 12th grade with or diploma in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of mental health issues, trauma, and psychosocial support techniques.
  • Excellent communication and counseling skills.
  • Empathy, sensitivity, and cultural competence in working with diverse populations.
  • Familiarity with Afghan mental health programs and community engagement is a plus.
  • Knowledge of local languages is essential.
