Job Description

  1. Program Design & Implementation:
    • Design and implement mental health programs in alignment with the organization’s mission and in response to specific needs identified in assessments.
    • Integrate mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services into existing health programs, ensuring a holistic approach to care.
    • Provide technical assistance for the development of tools, guidelines, and training materials for mental health services.
  2. Technical Support:
    • Provide expert guidance and technical support in mental health interventions, focusing on trauma, post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, and family or community-based counseling.
    • Train health care providers, community leaders, and local organizations on mental health issues and basic psychosocial support.
  3. Monitoring & Evaluation:
    • Support the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of mental health programs to ensure effectiveness, outcomes, and quality of care.
    • Collect and analyze data on mental health services to track program progress and make data-driven adjustments to programs.
  4. Capacity Building:
    • Build the capacity of local mental health professionals, health workers, and community-based organizations to deliver quality mental health services.
    • Conduct training and workshops on mental health awareness, basic psychological first aid (PFA), and other relevant topics.
  5. Coordination & Collaboration:
    • Coordinate with local health authorities, government entities, NGOs, and donors to align mental health services with national standards and strategies.
    • Engage with key stakeholders to raise awareness about the importance of mental health services and advocate for resources and funding for mental health programs.
  6. Clinical Supervision:
    • Supervise clinical mental health professionals, including psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers, to ensure best practices in care.
    • Conduct case reviews, provide clinical supervision, and ensure adherence to ethical standards in mental health care.
  7. Community Engagement:
    • Support the design of community-based mental health interventions, ensuring accessibility, cultural appropriateness, and relevance to the target populations.
    • Work closely with community leaders to reduce stigma and promote mental health awareness.
 

Job Requirements

  1. Educational Qualifications:
    • Certified specialization in Mental Health.
    • Master’s degree in Psychology, Psychiatry or a related field is a plus.
    • Post-graduate training in mental health or psychosocial support is an asset.
  2. Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in mental health, with at least 2 years working in humanitarian or development settings.
    • Proven experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating mental health programs, particularly in conflict settings or post-conflict recovery.
    • Strong background in psychosocial support (PSS), psychological first aid, trauma-informed care, and counseling.
    • Experience working with displaced populations, including refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and vulnerable communities.
  3. Skills & Competencies:
    • Deep understanding of mental health challenges in emergency settings and familiarity with international mental health standards.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders, including local health authorities, community members, and international organizations.
    • Ability to train and mentor local staff and stakeholders to strengthen mental health systems.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement monitoring and evaluation systems for mental health programs.
    • Proven ability to work under pressure and in unstable environments, adapting to shifting priorities and circumstances.
    • Fluency in English, with proficiency in local languages (Dari, Pashto) preferred.
  4. Personal Attributes:
    • Strong leadership and teamwork abilities.
    • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
    • High levels of empathy and a commitment to improving mental health outcomes for marginalized populations.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and creatively in a field-based setting.
    • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

 

 

  1. Other Requirements:
    • Willingness to work in challenging environments and remote areas with limited resources.
    • Flexibility to adapt to evolving programmatic needs and security situations.

6. Desirable Qualifications:

    • Experience with national or international development agencies.
  • Experience working in a large scale of population such as RH, PH.
  • Knowledge of community-based mental health models and peer support interventions.

Training or experience in Health System Strengthening and integration of mental health services into primary health care.
