Aga Khan Health Service, Afghanistan (AKHS,A), an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), is a long-term partner of the ‘Ministry of Public Health, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’ for the implementation of “Basic Package of Health Services” in three provinces (Baghlan, Bamyan and Badakhshan), and implementation of Essential Package of  Hospital Service (EPHS) in Badakhshan and Bamyan province. AKHS-A is implementing three Community Midwifery Education Program Schools each in Bamyan, Badakhshan and Baghlan

Job Description

Responsibilities:

• Overall management of emergency department.
• Management and stabilization of all emergency cases (medical, surgical and paediatrics) who are coming to emergency room.
• Performing emergency medical and surgical procedures according to patients needs and condition.
• Strong coordination with all departments regarding further and advanced management of related patients.
• Regular registration and answering of inquiry letters regarding medicolegal cases.
• Coordinate with outpatient and inpatient management of related department as per need.
• Regular attending in morning report meeting and other committee meetings.
• Attending to teleconsultations as per need.
• Having strong morale of teamwork.
• Good knowledge of ETAT (emergency triage assessment and treatment).
• Good practice of medical ethics.
• Conduct daily ward rounds for observation and review of patients. Ensure patient case notes, transfer, referral and discharges are written on daily basis and ensure regular monitoring of patients’ progress.
• Run clinics on a regular basis and attend to emergency cases when necessary.
• Liaise with Consultants on handling specialized cases in provision of patients’ health care.
• Participate in all clinical activities and support departmental heads in timely and accurate medical reports, audits, and mortality reviews.   Participate in all clinical audit activities, presentations, rounds and clinical teaching by visiting consultants
• Observe and comply with environmental health and occupational safety measures and regulations.
• Provide professional guidance to facilitate growth and development of the institution.
• Ensure effective utilization of resources. (Rational medicine use, rational lab, radiologic tests and other resources)
• Work with subordinates to establish effective managerial control through delegation and coordination.
• Stimulate achievement and evaluate performance on a regular basis.
• Work effectively with superiors, peers and subordinates.
• Strong coordination regarding registration and data collection of all emergency patients and procedures.
• Flexibility in tough conditions.
• Report to Head of your Department
• Working during night and holidays according to schedule.
