About AWEC

AWEC is a non-political, non-profit, woman-headed national organization established in 1991 by a group of educated Afghan women in exile, who rallied together to address the lack of facilities for Afghan refugees in Islamabad and eventually Peshawar, in Pakistan. AWEC has always been involved in advocacy and awareness-raising for women and children’s rights while providing services to those who frequently fall through safety nets. In recent years, one of AWEC’s core activities has been to support women through mobilizing Afghans, from local communities to political elites, towards the goal of reducing and eventually eliminating violence against women.

Job Description

Job Summary:

The Legal Advisor is responsible for engaging and working with beneficiaries on training, consultation, and advising based on Islamic and Sharia law to facilitate the beneficiariesin adopting and understanding the judiciary under the current context.

Job Description:

  • Provide legal consultation, training, and adviceto project beneficiaries based on the Islamic principle.
  • Documentation of consultation records for each of the visitors in both soft and hard formats
  • Establishing a database of cases recorded and updating the database from time to time and its submission to the Project Coordinator for onward compliancewiththe Project Manager.
  • Providing the visitors with legal consultation and services and strengthening legal referral mechanisms based on Islamic principal to the local authorities.
  • Advise clients concerning the case, claim liability, the advisability of prosecuting or defending lawsuits, or legal rights and obligations.
  • Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for the beneficiaries in an Islamic context.
  • Analyze the probable outcomes of cases, using knowledge of legal precedents.
  • Examine legal data to determine the advisability of defending or prosecuting a lawsuit.
  • Select jurors, argue motions, meet with judges, and question witnesses during the practice course of a trial.
  • Prepare and draft legal documents, such as wills, deeds, patent applications, mortgages, leases, and contracts.

Any other tasks being assigned by the Project Manager

 

Job Requirements

  • Knowledge of community mobilization

Skills and Experience:

  • Good knowledge of the intervention zones and local communities
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • Familiar with planning and prioritizing tasks
  • Honest, active, and well mannered
  • Strong Interpersonal & communication skills

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Degree in Law or Sharia fieldMaster Degree is preferred and have a Legal license

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 8years experiencein legal and law-related activities and providing legal advice based on the Islamic judiciary and Sharia Law.

Languages Skills:

  • Fluency in written and spoken Dari and Pushto languages and English is preferred.
