SCA Background
The Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA) has been working in Afghanistan since 1982, presently managing development Programs concerning Health, Education, Rural Livelihoods and Community Governance, with a total annual budget of roughly USD 40 million. The total number of staff is slightly over 7,386.During the last 10 years SCA has undertaken a change process moving from a primarily humanitarian service delivery approach towards more of a developmental role, putting increasing emphasis on capacity development, rights-based programming, and outcome orientation. The mission of SCA is to empower individuals, communities, and local organizations, primarily in rural areas and with particular focus on women, girls, boys and vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities, so that they may participate fully in society and influence their own development. Disability programme of Swedish Committee for Afghanistan is working for full inclusion of Persons with disabilities in society through provision of services such as Physical rehabilitation, vocational trainings, access to interest free revolving loan, special preparatory education to children with disabilities for inclusion to public schools, and awareness raising of community, families, authorities on the rights of Person with disabilities,
Disability Programme is working for institutional capacity building of disabled people organization (DPOs) professional association and NGOs working in the disability sector to advocate for the rights of person with disability to government and international community.
The disability programme is managed by a programme management unit in Kabul management office (KMO) and by four regional management offices (RMOs) at Jalalabad, Mazar, Taloqan and Ghazni
The Information Officer is responsible to collect, develop and edit informative materials on the right and entitlement of person with disability and publish through various media for the purpose of a) raising awareness among community, family members about the rights and special need of person with disabilities and community people responsibility toward Person with Disability, b) stimulate community members, school teachers and students, health workers, traders and any other part of the community who can support people with disabilities and provide equal opportunity PwDs mainstreaming, c) change negative attitude of non-disabled people towards Person with Disability through writing, publications, broadcasting TV and radio programme on the right and entitlement of person with disability and their inclusion in community.
The information officer will be a liaison person with local TV and Radio. S/he will be responsible to coordinate broadcasting of disability right programme including round table discussion with local TVs and Radios. S/he will be a focal person with local.
