Job Description

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

In charge of the smooth running of the Institute of Health Sciences, IHS Gardez in Paktia and Khost provinces. The main responsibilities of the Head of IHS are the following:

  • Supports HR department in the selection and recruitment of Course Coordinators, trainers, and other staff, as per NAC regulations.
  • Ensures a safe and secure working environment and takes all necessary measures to minimize risks to health and safety of the IHS’s staff, students, and visitors.
  • Ensures all required equipment and material for health study programs are available and that properties, resources and equipment are maintained properly and in good working order.
  • Ensures availability and standards of appropriate classroom facilities and skill labs.
  • Ensures that required learning resources are accessible to IHS faculty and students.
  • Plans and implements the selection of students for health study programs in midwifery, nursing, lab technology, pharmacy, and physiotherapy.
  • Utilizes the educational standards as a platform for performance and quality improvement.
  • Makes sure that personnel files for all staff and students including record of clinical and theoretical assessment of programs are maintained in IHS.
  • Enforces all school policies regarding staff/student performance and behaviour.
  • Participates in coordination meetings at GIHS at central level and at provincial stakeholders’ meetings to ensure good coordination, planning and implementation of activities and calls for exceptional meetings whenever necessary.
  • Ensures that standardized curricula are available and implemented as per MoPH regulations and NAC guidelines.
  • Supports the Course Coordinators in Conducting Annual Performance Appraisal for the Staff.
  • Facilitates capacity building opportunities for teachers.
  • Supervises and supports Course Coordinators to monitor teaching staff involved in teaching /learning.
  • Undertakes ‘on the job’ training of faculty staff whenever deemed necessary.
  • Conducts regular supervisory visits to theoretical classes of IHS and clinical sites in Paktia to ensure that learning activities are being conducted as planned.
  • Represents NAC in conferences, workshops and seminars related to Public Health at Provincial level.
  • Conducts regular supportive supervision visits to Khost satellite branch to make sure that necessary set up is in place and all processes are implemented as per NAC policies and procedures.
  • Any other task as assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements

Languages Required:

  • Pashto, Dari and English

 

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in medicine, Midwifery, Nursing, Public Health or other health disciplines from a well-recognized University, master’s degree holders will be given preference

 

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in Health sector
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a management position
