Job Description

The Rangeen Kamna fish farm is struggling with a lack of technical and practical knowledge in floating fish feed production to grow healthy live fish that exhibit the physical appearance and weight to command good prices in local markets. To support the fish farm and tackle its challenges, AVCP intends to enhance the technical capacity and capabilities of the fish farm staff. This will entail enhancing their knowledge and skills in areas such as developing high quality floating fish feed that meets the nutritional requirement of various fish species (especially trout fish), sustainable aquaculture practices, improving the installation of the floating fish feed extruder, conducting physical inspections and sorting of raw materials, conducting physical tests of the raw materials, developing feed formulating techniques, conducting feed testing, enhancing the firm's skills in small-scale floating fish feed extruder use, establishing new downstream linkages to expand the market, and providing support to farmers to fortify the fish supply chain in Afghanistan.

Tasks (Performance Requirements)

The Floating Fish Feed Production Expert (STTA) will be mainly responsible for designing, developing, and delivering a comprehensive training program tailored to the unique needs of Rangeen Kaman Fish Farm, empowering its technical staff members with the necessary knowledge and skills that will enable them to improve their technical capacity on floating fish formulation and production techniques. Furthermore, the specific scope of work includes, but is not limited to, the activities listed below:

• Demonstrate knowledge and techniques for high-quality trout fish floating feed production and formulation. Develop a range of feed formulations tailored to different fish species, life stages of starter and grower feed, environmental conditions, and weather conditions (hot versus cold climate feed conditions).
• Design and implement a testing program to evaluate the feed's performance, including:
  • Water stability and floatation time
  • Nutrient leaching and water quality impact
  • Normal fish growth, health, and survival rates
  • Feed palatability and conversion ratio
  • Daily feeding time and method during various seasons.
• Develop training materials and conduct workshops for the anchor firm on the use and benefits of the developed feed and how to produce high-quality floating fish feed for trout fish.
• Provide technical support and guidance to ensure the successful adoption of the new feed.
• Demonstrate knowledge and techniques on small-scale floating fish feed extruder installation and use.
• Check feed quality after production.
• Effects of high temperatures on feed production.
