Our mandate is to save lives and seek justice. We do this by working with long-term development programmes, humanitarian interventions and advocacy toward decision-makers to address the root causes of injustice, poverty and power imbalance. Our work is undertaken closely with local civil society partners and other NGOs. NCA Afghanistan is currently working on Climate Resilient WASH, Climate Smart Economic Empowerment, Humanitarian Response, Learning and Social Development, Integrated Community Resilience Action (ICRA) project and Civil Society capacity building.

Job Description

List of the main tasks and responsibilities for this position (primary responsibilities,
etc.):

  • Adhere to policies and procedures set out in Chapter 5 and in the financial management
    Chapter 12 from NCA’s Operational Manual, and any other manuals relevant to tasks assigned.
  • Responsible for daily cash transactions and preparing bank transfers and following up the all-banking issues as per weekly plan.
  • Responsibility for the safe custody and management of office cash, ensuring daily and weekly cash count is conducted and documented as per NCA requirements.
  • Responsible for monthly reconciliation of cash and bank records/books.
  • Undertakes routine data entry for bank transfers & cheque payments as when they are completed, or on a weekly basis.
  • Prepares monthly cash flow forecast for all submitted payment requests to inform office
    cash needs and advice Senior Finance Coordinator for immediate action on office cash replenishment.
  • Familiarities with documentation requirements and routinely communicate or remind staff of essential documentation requirements before any payment is processed.
  • Responsible for office cash management and ensure regular updates of manual cashbook for any surprise or ad hoc cash counts tasks.
  • Responsible for proper filing of NCA primary financial records and vouchers and routine scan of the same for electronic archiving in line with financial documents and records retention policy.
  • Undertake routine stamping “PAID” of completed all financial fully processed financial documents. This is a critical control in the finance department and the stamp may change from
  • time to time depending on the funding source.
  • Responsible for settlement of vendors and customers into NCA accounting system and
    generate periodic report updates for routine follow up, always making sure that no advance payment is made to staff with unsettled/pending advances
  • Support with audit processes of NCA institutional, project and donor commissioned audits. This support shall include document retrievals, filling back among other tasks.
  • Contribute to meeting financial reporting requirements and deadlines for the country office.
    Perform other duties as maybe assigned from time to time by the supervisor.

 

Job Requirements

Required tertiary education (level, field), relevant certifications and other formal training:

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting or a relevant field and additional work experience.  Experience in performance of similar roles especially in the charity sector is desirable.

Required competencies, work experience and proven results from previous positions:

  • University Bachelor Degree in accounting or a relevant field and additional work experience.  Experience in performance of similar roles especially in the charity sector is desirable.
  • Two or more years’ experience in the Finance Department of an international NGO background,
    responsible for office cash management is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated competency with an ERP accounting software in particular Maconomy
    Advanced computer skills in MS Office programs, particularly Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to details.
  • Excellent oral and written English.
  • Integrity, Team player, Collaboration, Proactive problem solving.
  • Self-discipline, solution oriented and proven expertise in offering guidance to non-finance staff in a way that generate/increase understanding on requirements is essential.
  • Being proactive and routinely discusses new ideas and seeking solutions to make the finance support role more effective would be highly preferred.
