About DAARTT (Danish Assistance to Afghan Rehabilitation and Technical Training)

DAARTT (Danish Assistance to Afghan Rehabilitation and Technical Training) is an NGO established in Afghanistan by the Danish People’s Aid (DPA) in 2003.

The organization is specialized in construction and has built more than 200 schools, clinics and other buildings in Afghanistan, but is also engaged in humanitarian activities, such as construction of wells for drought-hit families and distribution of non-food items and emergency cash to people in need. Activities are funded by AHF and Danish humanitarian funds. DAARTT is a member of ACBAR and of the Shelter and NFI, WASH and education clusters

Job Description

Under the direct supervisor and guidance of the Centre Manager, the English Teacher performs the following tasks:

Description:

  • Conduct knowledge assessment of the trainees to identify appropriate level of the students’ literacy in English luggage;
  • Based on the previous understanding level of students, the teacher shall select appropriate textbook/literature for teaching;
  • Develops lesson plans for the daily lessons that meet core objectives and necessary level of the given lesson;
  • Select lesson objectives and determine “Learning Outcomes” on the monthly basis;
  • Prepare teaching and learning resources such as; Printed Material, Videos, Audios, Reading Materials, and other material that are needed for the practical lessons. Such materials are also available in the market. These resources must be consistent with learning objectives and students’ needs/levels;
  • Deliver lessons according the daily schedule using a variety of differentiated instructional techniques/methodologies and resources that are appropriate to the academic level and meet the diverse needs of students. This should include reading, listening and writing skills. Basic numeracy skills shall also be part of the lessons;
  • Maximize the appropriate use of technology in the classroom - as an instructional tool;
  • Assign and check home-works of the students on the daily basis. The teacher is required to give constructive feedback to students regarding their performances through home-works;
  • Determine the needs for the teaching and learning resources and submit the list to the center administration for a timely supply;
  • Encourage the development of critical thinking skills of students;
  • Conduct “Learning Assessment” of students on the regular basis. The teacher shall determine number/frequency of assessment, but monthly learning assessment is recommended;
  • Establish a safe and flexible classroom environment conducive to optimal student learning;
  • Help students to work independently and collaboratively in groups;
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions;
  • Support other learning and teaching activities (workshops etc…) conducted by the project;
  • Undertake professional development activities to ensure continued professional growth and development of teaching skills;
  • Promote high standards of organization;
  • Leverage/maximize the impact of the work through establishing networking with other institutions that are working the same field;
  • Demonstrate a professional classroom management;
  • Be punctual to lessons;
  • Promote high standards in the use of English as the common language and help develop English for Academic Progress;
 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English Literature;
  • Solid grounding in classroom management and school procedures;
  • Proficient in the use of technology and computer applications as required;
  • Up to date with latest teaching techniques and topics in English instruction;
  • Outstanding communication skills;
  • Planning and organizational skills;
  • Creative and innovative;
  • Adaptability;
  • Collaborative skills;
  • Understand both Pashto and Dari languages.
