The Norwegian Afghanistan Committee (NAC) is a member-based solidarity organization that has been working in support and solidarity with the Afghan people for more than 35 years. The Norwegian Afghanistan Committee (NAC) has a zero tolerance of sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (SEAH) both within the organization and of beneficiaries. Prevention of and protection from sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (PSEAH) is the individual and collective responsibility of all NAC officers, management, staff, consultants, and volunteers, who are all required to familiarize themselves with, agree to, and act in accordance with NAC’s Ethical Guidelines and Commitment, NAC Child Protection Policy, and NAC PSEAH Policy, at all times – both during and outside working hours – and participate actively in introductory and refresher trainings. Any breaches of PSEAH clauses in NAC’s policies, guidelines, and/or commitments will lead to immediate termination and possible legal actions.

Job Description:

The Education Officer is reportable to the Head of SRO and Regional Education Coordinator. The following items are the main responsibilities of the Education Officer:

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Act according to the policy and regulations of Norwegian Afghanistan Committee (NAC).
  • Actively contribute to the successful development and good reputation of the NAC.
  • Strictly follow the NAC financial regulations and procedures at the field level.
  • Work closely with the Education Coordinator to share the training needs of teachers and get feedbacks.
  • Maintain close contact and working relationships with the relevant Government departments such as DED, NAC support Schools, SMCs, civil society organizations, NGOs, and other education actors.
  • Ensure increase on participation and retention of girls in educational activities supported by NAC.
  • Supervise activities of THINK Lab Facilitators, Head Masters, and teachers in all NAC support schools with respect to NAC Educational guidelines.
  • Coordinate participation & contribution of SMC members in schooling affairs and Ghazni city and districts.
  • Ensure registration and other procedures of all students in NAC-supported educational facilities in the relevant DEDs and keep appropriate records of them.
  • Ensure timely provision of the teaching and learning equipment and materials to the students and track the records.
  • Ensure appropriate use of the teaching and learning equipment and materials in the teaching and learning process.
  • Verify and update data collected during the school visits and maintain the data record forms regularly and in timely manners.
  • Maintain update records on students, teachers, school support, and professional needs based on the NAC online MIS in close coordination with Education Coordinator.
  • Monitor quality of equipment and materials provided to schools and keep their records.
  • Monitor performance of SMCs in relation to school affairs, their meeting records & achievements and follow their actions.
  • Work closely with SMCs to ensure the involvement of parents and image of ownership of the concerned communities in education of their children.
  • Maintain regular visits to the THINK Labs and NAC-support schools to conduct class observations and provide mentoring support to the teachers.
  • Ensure that NAC-supported schools, CLCs & THINK Labs are run in accordance to NAC policy and NAC Education Directives.
  • Promotes gender equality, and non-discrimination with regard to ethnic, political and religious background
  • To participate in workshops, seminars & meetings organized by the NAC Education Department.
  • Promotes good coordination with other NAC projects, all departments at Kabul Office especially Education Department with regard to project planning, budgeting and other related issues.
  • Liaison with other education actors and ensure strong cooperation and development through District/Provincial Education Directorate.

 

Specific Responsibilities in terms of trainings:

  • Conducting different kinds of training in the Main office and in the field.
  • Preparing new teaching manuals for ongoing and new training.
  • Follow up on NAC support schools and teachers and impact assessment of education training.
  • Monitoring from NAC support Schools, THINK Labs, CLCs, and other classes and teaching process of the facilitators and teachers and giving them feedback accordingly.
  • Delivering Model teaching to teachers at all NAC support schools and courses.
  • Evaluation of the education quality of students.
  • Identifying of training needs of teachers through regular classroom observations.
  • Assist the teachers and students in the development and utilization of low-cost & accessible teaching and learning material.
  • Encourage students to initiate creative works like stories, poems and explore the options for publication of their creative works.
  • Design new training according to teachers’ needs.
  • Conducting training for the key stakeholders, SMs, and SMSs members according to their needs.
  • Assist and support the M&E team in terms of data collection and field monitoring.
  • Any other task assigned by the line supervisor.
 

Job Requirements

Language Requirements:

  • Pashto (80% of project beneficiaries are Pashto speaking).
  • Dari
  • English

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Social Science and Psychology (Master’s degree is preferred)
  • Excellent capacity development and teamwork skills; cross-cultural and gender sensitivity;
  • Respect the confidentiality of the organization;
  • At least 3 years of experience similar to a position in national and international NGOs.
  • Good experience of teaching, class and Schools observation and teachers training.
  • Computer skills at operator level, especially with Ms. Word and Ms. Excel.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Excellent Speaking and Writing skill of Pashto Language (More than 80% of our beneficiaries are Pashto speaking).
  • The position will be based in Ghazni City with regular traveling to districts and other regions if needed (70% in project sites).
