For this purpose, the nutritionist team in Detention will interact with penitentiary authorities at central and provincial level in coordination with Protection to gain a good understanding of budget allocation for the food chain, prison menus and other aspects related to food chain management and budgeting. They will produce a curriculum to train prison staff on all relevant matters of the food chain from storage, record keeping, food ration calculation, cooking, and distribution of the food rations to the prisoners and conduct trainings in all prisons assisted by the ICRC. Furthermore, the nutritionist team in Detention regularly monitors the nutrition situation among the prison population through BMI assessments and trains the prison authorities on the methodology for their follow up. They link with ICRC Health in Detention who trains medical staff to include BMI in the entry exam.
