Job Description

Purpose of the Position

The purpose of the Driver position in WHH working in Kabul is to provide safe and reliable transportation support to facilitate the organization's vital activities and programs. Driver has a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient movement of personnel, equipment, and supplies in challenging and often volatile environments. The driver is responsible for operating vehicles in compliance with local traffic laws and WHH policies, maintaining the vehicles in good working condition, and practicing defensive driving techniques to mitigate risks. Generic Responsibilities

  • Compliance with Regulations: Ensuring compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and licensing requirements. This includes having a valid driver's license, adhering to traffic rules, and obtaining any necessary permits or certifications.
  • Security and Safety: Taking necessary precautions to ensure the safety of passengers, cargo, and themselves. This could involve implementing defensive driving techniques, securing the vehicle when parked, and being aware of potential security threats in the area.
  • Navigation: Having a good understanding of local routes and being able to navigate effectively using maps. Drivers may need to plan their routes to reach destinations efficiently, considering factors such as road conditions, traffic congestion, and time constraints.
  • Customer Service: Providing a courteous and professional service to passengers or clients. This may involve assisting passengers with boarding and disembarking, handling their luggage, and maintaining a friendly and helpful demeanor.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Transportation: Safely and efficiently transporting passengers, goods, or equipment from one location to another within Kabul and the central region. This could involve driving various types of vehicles, such as WHH Official Cars or WHH Rented vehicles.
  • Documentation: Keeping accurate records of mileage, fuel consumption, and any incident or accident reports as required by the employer or local authorities.
  • Reporting: reporting any accident, whether minor or significant, immediately to both his direct supervisor and the radio room.
  • Report any unprofessional behavior of passengers in the vehicle that may pose a danger to their own and others' lives immediately to the safety officer and the radio room.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Regularly inspecting the vehicle to ensure it is in good working condition. This involves checking the engine, tires, brakes, lights, and other essential components. Any identified technical issues requiring urgent attention should be promptly reported to both the line manager and the radio room.
  • Drivers may also be responsible for scheduling and conducting routine maintenance and repairs.

The candidate must have previous experience working with INGOs and be a resident of Kabul city who knows the routes and areas of Kabul city and the central region.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Education Requirement:

  • Valid driver's license: A valid driver's license is a fundamental requirement for the position. The driver should possess the appropriate license for the type of vehicle they will be operating.
  • Experience: 3 years Previous experience as a driver, preferably in a similar context or challenging environments,
  • Flexibility in working hours - the ability to work during weekends and evenings,
  • Excellent driving skills and technical knowledge with 4-wheel vehicles, such as the Land Cruiser and Hilux,
  • Minimum educational background: high school diploma
  • Language skills: Proficiency in the local language(s) Dari or Pashto, English knowledge is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of local regulations: Familiarity with local traffic laws, regulations, and road conditions in central Afghanistan is important. Understanding the cultural context and local customs can also be advantageous,
  • Security awareness: the driver required to have a basic understanding of security protocols and adhere to safety guidelines,
