Job Description

Job Summary:

    The purpose of the position of Doctor veterinary (DVM) is to plan and implement the technical aspects related to dairy process, animal health service and livestock management. She/he will be required to work in close coordination with livestock officers, VFU and DAIL to provide technical services including livestock health management, vaccination, feed and management, milk production and processing techniques and technologies to assist livestock owner groups improve their production and productivity. The doctor veterinary will work closely with para-vets, enterprise officer and VFUs to ensure livestock services are provided to livestock owner groups.    

 

Job Requirements

Job Responsibilities 01:   Program Management and staff Management :

  • Staff capacity building in animal health and welfare.
  • Facilitate establish livestock owners groups in each target community.
  • Provide technical support to VFUs in the districts.
  • Provide leader ship and bookkeeping training to project staff.
  • Market assessment to determine viable livelihood activities for livestock owner groups.
  • Staff capacity building on livelihoods.
  • Facilitate distribution of livelihood inputs to livestock owner groups.
  • Facilitate meetings with traders and private stakeholders at the district and provincial level
  • Provide support to parvet vet on community’s mobilization in line with project objectives at the target.
  • communities to identify eligible project livestock owner groups.
  • Facilitate inter and intra-provincial learning opportunities to LOG members (exposure visits)
  • To coordinate and supervise livestock related project activities and in close collaboration with par vet vet and enterprise officer in 2 target districts to ensure a smooth implementation according to a project work plan and achieving planned results.
  • Advise and assist the project coordinator in planning, implementation and further development of livestock and enterprise components to ensure that they are technically sound, cost-effective, and relevant to the target
  • Build capacity of Parvet vet and enterprise officers on elected committee members through training in bookkeeping, compliance, and leadership training.
  • Conduct five-day technical training on appropriate animal health and welfare practices to project staff, VFUs, and DAIL staff on animal handling, housing and feeding, identifying the disease, and seeking treatment.
  • Instruct farvet vet on medicine usages, the benefit of vaccine, and administration of the vaccine for livestock disease prevention.
  • Facilitate meetings and strengthen linkages between LOGs and DAIL district extension Officers, livestock producer associations, and livestock marketing co-operatives.
  • Follow up with the para vet and VFUs vaccination seasons.
  • Facilitate meetings with traders and private stakeholders at the district and provincial level
  • Conduct regular monitoring of project activities.
  • Collect necessary data and information to keep track of changes in attitudes and practices of target livestock owner groups
  • Maintain good relations with the government, NGOs, and VFUs.
  • Prepare annual, quarterly, and monthly plans for effective execution of the project activities as stipulated in the project document.
  • In collaboration with the field team, develop technical training materials, and training plans.
  • Visit regularly both district’s project sites, to assess the performance of staff and provide information, encouragement, and technical advice as required.
  • Submission field reports, monthly, and quarterly to the project coordinator on time.

 

Job Responsibilities 02:   Monitoring & Impact Assessment:

  • Ensure that doctor veterinary produces 1 – 2 success stories during every quarter of the project;
  • Document key challenges faced and lessons learned every quarter.

 

Job Responsibilities 03:   Reporting & Communication:

Prepare and submit to Project Manager monthly progress reports, quarterly and annual against work plan based on donor and head office requirement deadline.

 

Job Specification:

Education &Training:  

Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science, Livestock Development, Animal Health, Dairy Science/ Technology.

experiencesces :

    •   At least 5 years of professional experience in areas of dairy process and equine animal health service.
    • High-level computer literacy skill
    • Knowledge of Dari and Pashtu languages will be an added value.
    • Good communication, reporting, and English skill.
    • Committed and honest in his/her work.

Technical Skills 

  • Computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook) essential
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Writing skills in English /Dari
  • Excellent reporting and communication skills
