About (WASSA):

The Women’s Activities and Social Services Association (WASSA) was established in 2002 as Afghanistan's first women’s independent organization. WASSA aims to promote the women’s equal participation in socio-economic sectors and support the current humanitarian crisis by providing emergency humanitarian and livelihood assistance to vulnerable households, especially women.

To support WASSA’s vision and mission, some potential candidates are needed to be recruited for a project funded by UN Women to strengthen women’s livelihoods through increased access to skills and resources. The project will be implemented in three districts of Herat Province for a period of 15 months.

Job Description

  1. Make sure that all commodities entrusted to WASSA are properly accounted for when they arrive at distribution centers (Food Distribution Points/FDP) at the district level.
  2. Evaluate all approaches to achieve for goods arriving at distribution centers. Ascertain that the commodities are of the correct quantity and quality as specified on the waybill. Record all quantities delivered short (missing), quantities lost in transit, and damaged quantities as soon as possible (In the field and FDP). All observations must be documented as soon as possible.
  3. During offloading, commodities must be carefully counted.
  4. Commodities must be stacked in an organized manner, by commodity type, at the distribution center to facilitate easy distribution.
  5. Take an active role in beneficiary registration and verification to ensure that the process is fair.
  6. Organize and supervise the distribution of food items in the field and FDPs.
  7. Commodities must be properly stacked on plastic sheeting at the distribution center.
  8. To ensure smooth distribution and flow of beneficiaries, ensure that the distribution center is properly organized and secured with ropes and crowd control measures.
  9. Responsible for ensuring that all necessary distribution equipment, such as forms, ropes, banners, plastic sheets, measuring devices, and so on, is available at the distribution center.
  10. Supervise the loading of leftover food after distributions. Make sure a waybill is ready for the food to be returned to the warehouse.
  11. This is required for the preparation of daily distribution center visit reports and Food Monitors reports.
  12. Ensure that all tally documents and beneficiary lists are properly completed and returned to the office for safe storage.
  13. Ensure accurate accounting of all commodities received and distributed at each center.
  14. Perform any other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time.

Job Requirements

  1. At least two years of experience in food distribution and WFP projects is required.
  2. Prospective candidates should have a Bachelor's degree or higher.
  3. Candidates must also have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a related field.
  4. Ability to perform field assignments as well as a willingness to travel for extended periods of time in difficult terrain and harsh and demanding conditions. Candidates must also be willing to live and work in dangerous and security-risk areas.
  5. Excellent command of both oral and written English. Computer literacy is advantageous.
