The Homeland Youths Social Institution (HYSI) is a non-profit, non-political, non-governmental, and independent organization that aims to Increase the ability and coordination among service providers to provide quality protective service for children at risk, at achieving youth comprehensive and sustainable development, by providing them with services, programs, and projects to improve the economic standing of the youth and to create new educational, rehabilitation, and vocational training opportunities, followed with mentoring and guidance services.
Since its establishment HYSI’s activities have been around increasing child protection in emergencies, particularly in the northern and central regions due to having existing strong networks and capacity and other reasons of cultural, local, and geographical familiarization, by providing basic needs of the most vulnerable children from various communities such as street working children, children on hunger, IDP’s children, children separated from family and their caregivers including widows who are headed households.
HYSI has been working to promote community engagement by advocating child protection to increase awareness around it or in emergencies by providing shelter and clothing, access to food, safe drinking water and health and sanitation in the northern provinces of Takhar and Badakhshan to respect human dignity when in misery.
HYSI was formed by a group of development professionals who have been working in the diverse fields of reproductive rights, sexuality, and violence against children, women, media and human rights. The group’s experience coupled with discussions and consultations with experts, donors and others in the field established the need to form an organization focused on promoting the basic rights of children in addressing issues of education, health violence against children, gender and human rights.
