About Afghanistan Rehabilitation and Education Program (AREP):

AREP is an independent non-governmental, non-profit Afghan national organization that was established in 1994 and registered with the Ministry of Economy in 2005. AREP's learning experience as a development organization comes from its working association with communities in different areas of Afghanistan. More importantly, the development and growth of the organization have been through an evolutionary process. Besides AREP is a member of Education International (EI), Agency Coordinating Body for Afghan Relief and Development (ACBAR), Afghan NGOs Coordination Bureau (ANCB) and DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S (The International Award for Young People) AREP is also one of the few Afghan NGOs certified by the Afghan Institute of Civil Society (AICS) in 2018.

AREP is working for women, youths, and children where disability is the top priority among the AREP three targeted groups in three  main  AREP  core  competencies/  technical  expertise,  a):  EDUCATION  (Formal  and  Informal education, b): CAPACITY BUILDING [Vocational Education Skills Trainings, Awareness Initiatives (Civic Education, Human Rights, Anti-Corruptions, Access to Justice, Peace Building & Conflict Resolution)  and  other training for aforementioned target groups]  &  c): COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT providing them assistance in the multi-cultural program, government and community dialog, peace building and Rehabilitation & Small Infrastructure) throughout Afghanistan.

Job Description

ROLE PURPOSE:

The purpose of creating this position is to provide community mobilization-related support to the implementation of the Save the Children’s HF grant in Kandahar province. Particularly, the Social Mobilizer will be responsible for effective community mobilization so that project activities are well understood and accepted by the target communities and beneficiaries.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Directly reports Project Coordinator, and collaborates with the project team in designing effective community mobilization strategy, implementation and monitoring plans.
  • Conduct outreach activities in the areas under coverage of the project, including community-based information-giving sessions concerning the project’s activities to make sure communities are fully aware of the project’s investments and related conditions.
  • Perform needs assessments, focus group discussions, awareness-raising and information-sharing activities, and work closely with the project team to prepare community-based investment plans for construction activities  and related productive investment interventions;
  • Take part in the identification and selection process of the FFS & Demo sites with the regional technical team
  • Mobilize and assist the CDCs and associations to actively participate in the awareness of the community about the project work in a timely manner and according to a written agreement;
  • help the community in gaining support through other programs likely undertaken by governmental and non-governmental organizations;
  • Present mobilization and training sessions to the community according to the projects plans;
  • Ensure communities maintain proper documentation of project-related activities
  • Share information on successes and drawbacks with the team.
  • In support from other project staff, support project location and project beneficiaries targeting strategy and criteria.
  • Support implementation of project baseline, mid-term, and final evaluation.
  • Assist joint monitoring visits with the government officials (Provincial/district relevant authorities) to the project sites.

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning

  • Facilitate project and activity information at all events such as training and workshops

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS 

University degree (Social science, BA economics, BBA, and development studies preferred)

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • 3 years of practical experience in the field of social Mobilization and community awareness with local and International NGOs.
  • Familiarity with construction programming
  • Maturity and confidence in dealing with the staff of government institutions, and communities.
  • Excellent communication (both oral and written) in local languages, people skills for conflict resolution and negotiation;
