Founded in 1956, the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is Denmark’s largest, and a leading international NGO - one of the few with a specific expertise in forced displacement. In 40 countries 7,500 employees protect, advocate and build sustainable futures for refugees and other displacement affected people and communities. DRC works during displacement at all stages: In the acute crisis, in exile, when settling and integrating in a new place, or upon return. DRC provides protection and life-saving humanitarian assistance. DRC supports displaced persons in becoming self-reliant and included into hosting societies. DRC works with civil society and responsible authorities to promote protection of rights and peaceful coexistence. Our 6,000 volunteers in Denmark make an invaluable difference in integration activities throughout the country.
ABOUT THE JOB
Danish Demining Group (today known as the Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding, HDP, sector of DRC) Afghanistan was established in Kandahar in 1998, and since May 2000 conducted operations in Central, Northern and Eastern regions of Afghanistan. HDP has trained many professional Afghan national mine action personnel across a wide range of disciplines and has built a solid reputation as an implementing partner (IP) of Mine Action Programme of Afghanistan (MAPA) with a strong focus on integrated activities as well as quality and safety.
In addition to Mine Action activities, DRC HDP focuses on community safety programming. DRC strives to identify safety and security needs from the perspective of those living in conflict areas and to help them find non-violent solutions. These include community engagement and violence reduction, programming that specifically seeks to engage communities in addressing root causes of conflict and local safety and security challenges. From February 2017 to March 2019, DRC implemented Peacebuilding activities in the form of Community Safety Planning, Conflict Mediation trainings and Youth Campaigns in Kabul and Herat.
DRC HDP is looking for a dedicated Community Engagement Team Leader to support in the development and implementation of DRCs Peacebuilding activities in Afghanistan.
The Community Engagement team leader is primarily responsible for supporting programme staff based in the Area Office in organizing and providing conflict mediation trainings, community safety planning and youth engagement activities. The team leader will work closely with the CE Specialist to conduct detailed conflict analysis in areas of implementation to inform community engagement and ensure conflict sensitivity of all activities. The team leader will also contribute to project monitoring, evaluation and reporting and is expected to mentor and support of CE staff based in Area Offices.
