Women for Afghan Women (WAW) is a grassroots civil society organization dedicated to protecting and promoting the rights of disenfranchised Afghan women and girls in Afghanistan and New York. In particular, WAW works to help Afghan women and girls exercise their rights to pursue their individual potential to self-determination and to representation in all areas of life—political, social, cultural, and economic. WAW relentlessly advocates for women’s rights and challenges the norms that underpin gender-based violence to influence attitudes and bring about change.

 

Job Description:

Job Overview

Under the supervision of the WAW area manager, the LTS Communication Officer is responsible for the visibility, data analysis, and reporting of the LTS Project. The LTS Communication Officer will work with LTS team leaders and the HQ reporting coordinator to collect, analyze, and report the data as per the requirements of the partner and program. The communications officer is responsible for managing external and internal communications for LTS, including the promotion of a positive public image through publications of LTS success stories, lessons learned, and recommendations, and overseeing the dissemination of information on LTS behalf.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops relationships with government, partners, NGOs, stakeholders, and contractors to share lessons learned and best practices.
  • Develop effective program communication strategies:
  • Manage internal communications (memos, newsletters, etc.)
  • Draft content (e.g., press releases) for mass media or the website:
  • Draft, design and develop visibility materials as required by the programme;
  • Organize initiatives and plan events or press conferences;
  • Liaise with UNHCR and handle requests for interviews, statements, etc;
  • Facilitate the resolution of disputes with the public or external vendors;
  • Assist in communication of strategies or messages from senior leadership
  • Travels to Provinces: Travel is required
  • Ensure timely data collection and analysis; draft and prepare the reports; and submit them on the due dates.
  • Proactively track changes in programme scope, identify potential needs for adjustment, and communicate them to stakeholders.
  • Review deliverables prepared by the programme team before passing them to LTS Management and onward to UNHCR.
  • Prepare progress reports of the programme at regular intervals for relevant management.
  • Work with LTS teams and collect the data regularly, manage and analyze the data, and present it as per the partner and programme requirements.
  • Work with LTS teams and build their capacity for reporting and communications skills.
  • Collaborate with the reporting coordinator at WAW HQ on reporting and overall communications strategies and activities;
  • Any other task assigned by the supervisor.
 

Job Requirements

  • A minimum of 3–4 years of proven experience as a communication officer
  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in a related professional field (if needed, you can specify the field). Same font and size to be used.
  • Knowledge of office management systems and procedures
  • Working knowledge of data collection, analysis and reporting
  • Proficiency in MS Office (MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, in particular)
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, Pashto, and Dari
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
