Job Description

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Climate Adaptation Officer will play a crucial role in advancing the organization's efforts to address the impacts of climate change through effective adaptation strategies. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating, implementing, and monitoring climate adaptation initiatives under the EC Life Project within the organization.

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the implementation of climate adaptation activities under EC Life Project.
  • Assist and work in collaborating with relevant stakeholders to integrate climate adaptation considerations into their planning and decision-making processes.
  • Assist in research and identify best practices, technologies, and approaches for climate adaptation and resilience building.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress and effectiveness of climate adaptation initiatives in EC Life Project and make recommendations for improvements as necessary.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on climate adaptation to internal and external partners working in close collaboration with Lead Agriculture & Food Security & Climate Resilience and Climate Resilience Specialist.
  • Contribute to capacity-building efforts by organizing workshops, training sessions, and knowledge-sharing events related to climate adaptation in close collaboration with Climate Change Specialist.
  • Stay up to date with the latest developments in climate science, policies, and regulations to ensure the organization remains informed and adaptive.
  • Prepare regular progress reports on climate adaptation initiatives for management and relevant stakeholders under EC Life Project.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of climate resilience related activities in projects and work closely with M&E colleagues in the department.
  • Travel to the field to monitor the climate adaptation activities carried out under the EC LIFE project.
  • Assist the National Project Manager EC LIFE project in development of consolidated report.
  • To carry out the responsibilities of the role in a way which reflects AKF (Afg)'s commitment to safeguarding staff, beneficiaries and protecting children from harm and abuse in accordance with AKF (Afg)s Safeguarding policy. 
  • To report any suspicions or actual violations of the Safeguarding Policy and/or Child Safeguarding Policy as per the given training.

 

OCCASIONAL SIGNIFICANT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend the climate adaptation meetings and present the progress under the EC LIFE project.
  • Respond to any ad hoc request on climate adaptation activities to the EC LIFE project National Project Manager.
  • Any other task/duty assigned by the National Project Manager of EC LIFE project Or Lead Agriculture & Food Security & Climate Resilience.

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or a relevant degree in environmental science, climate studies, geography or in a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience working in climate change adaptation, environmental management, or a related field.
  • Experience in project management, including project design, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to assess complex climate-related risks and vulnerabilities.
  • Strong understanding of climate change science, impacts, and adaptation strategies.

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and establish partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient in using climate modeling tools, GIS software, and other relevant technical tools.
  • Willingness to travel as needed for project-related activities.
  • Knowledge of relevant national and international climate policies and agreements.
