People in Need’s Afghanistan country programme started in November 2001, providing emergency food distribution in mountainous areas of the central highlands. 20 years later, the programme has visibly grown and diversified, but continues to promote PIN’s core values: envisioning a world where people are free to make decisions about their lives; a world where people are not restricted by an un-free society, poverty, lack of education or discrimination. Today, we work along the humanitarian and development spectrum, providing immediate aid supporting the most vulnerable in Afghanistan to find long-term solutions to the challenges they face.

 

  1. Background

PIN Afghanistan’s three strategic objectives for the current planning period (2021-2022) are (1) Agency driven, transformative, humanitarian assistance; (2) Making markets work for crisis affected and marginalised communities; and, (3) Harnessing decent, productive and inclusive livelihoods. Under the current evolving context, the CP is focusing efforts under strategic priority 1 and in particular supporting people to have (1) enough to eat, (2) a safe and secure living space that supports their health and well-being, (3) the basic items needed to stay safe and warm, and (4) access to education when the normal structures are no longer available to them. 

PIN has secured an 11 month Educations in Emergencies project funded by the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund. The project will establish temporary learning spaces to 2400 children in crisis affected communities in Kabul providing access to recreational activities, psychosocial support and basic educational course in line with EIEWG standards.

Job Description

Under the overall supervision of the Logistics Coordinator, the cleaner is responsible for cleaning the guesthouse/offices. The ideal candidate will ensure the cleanliness, safety, and comfort of our guesthouse rooms and facilities in the PIN compound. He/she will perform various cleaning and maintenance tasks to uphold high standards of cleanliness and guest satisfaction.

 

Duties and Responsibalities: 

  • Empty trash bins and dispose of waste properly.
  • Sweep and mop floors to maintain cleanliness.
  • Vacuum carpets to remove dirt and debris.
  • Make beds and change linens to provide fresh accommodations for expats.
  • Maintain inventory of necessary cleaning supplies and notify when supplies need replenishment.
  • Dust furniture and surfaces to keep rooms tidy and presentable.
  • Follow all health and safety regulations to ensure a safe environment.
  • Perform cleaning duties efficiently and with attention to detail.
  • Report any breakages, damages, or safety issues for prompt repairs.
  • Protect and maintain cleaning equipment in good working condition.
  • Answer expats requests and ensure their needs are met in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Clean and tidy up guesthouse rooms to create a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Conduct monthly disinfection and deep cleaning of rooms and common areas.
  • Follow guesthouse security guidelines to protect guests and property.
  • Assist expats when necessary and provide them with support and assistance.
  • Clean furniture and its covers to maintain cleanliness and appearance.
  • Perform and track maintenance activities to ensure the upkeep of the guesthouse.
  • Provide laundry services as needed, including washing, drying, and folding linens.
  • fulfills any other tasks as required.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • High School graduate with a minimum of 3 years of experience with INGOs.

 

Technical skills:

  • Attention to detail

  • Cleanliness

 

Other:

  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques and equipment.
  • Previous experience in cleaning and housekeeping preferred.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently.

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and evenings as needed.
