Job Description

Job Purpose:

The cleaner in Balkh province will be responsible for cleaning the office, rooms, guest houses during official working hours,  and to keep the environment of the office clean and safe.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

The cleaner in the Balkh Province will be responsible for carrying the following and not limit to:

  • Will work on regular schedules appointed by the supervisor and senior management staff. Will be at work on time.
  • Will work a regular and complete shift, per the schedule appointed by the Supervisor and senior management staff.
  • Will request time off in 24 hours in advance and assist in finding a replacement for shift.
  • Will maintain a business-like appearance and be polite to visitors and staff.
  • Will report any needs for office repairs immediately to the supervisor.
  • Will clean wards at 7:30 am.  Will sweep floors, dust walls, windows, and corners, and ensure stove heaters are working properly and safely. 
  • Will clean windows once per week with a rag.
  • Will clean bathrooms twice a day, at 8am and 3pm, and dry floors and walls after cleaning.  Will empty wastebasket for toilet paper and burn paper.  Will ensure that soap is in a clean soap dish, and that clean and dry towels are hung neatly folded by staff and visitor use.  Will clean bathtub, and ensure that shower, toilet, and bathtub drains are clear; toilet paper is available in all bathrooms and draining easily. Will ensure that pipes are not leaking. 
  • Will assist in preparing meals, moving furniture, and office-related tasks as needed, and be ready to learn new skills as needed.
  • Other job assignments are required by the supervisor.
  • Any additional official tasks which may be assigned by supervisors.

  • Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance and ethics throughout the International Medical Corps. As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of International Medical Corps and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards.  Conducts work with the highest level of integrity.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

Able to read and write in the local language.  

Experience:

Previous verifiable 1-2 years’ experience as a cleaner (or equivalent) with national or international NGO or similar agency.

Competency:

  • Able to communicate (spoken and written) Dari/Pashto languages.
  • Good working knowledge

Demonstrable Knowledge of National and International NGO and Aid agency sectors in Balkh office.
