Job Description

Job Purpose:

The Child Protection Intern will assist in implementing and monitoring child protection programs within International Medical Corps' operational areas. This role is designed to offer the intern a comprehensive learning experience in child protection, program support, and community engagement in emergency and development contexts.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

Below duties and responsibilities are planned for the intern:
 

1. Program Support and Implementation:

   - Assist with the planning, executing, and evaluating child protection programs.

   - Support community awareness and engagement initiatives related to child rights and protection issues.

2. Case Management and Psychosocial Support:

   - Contribute to case management efforts, assisting with documentation, follow-up, and stakeholder coordination.

   - Participate in providing psychosocial support to children and adolescents affected by crisis.

3. Capacity Building and Training:

   - Help organize and conduct training sessions for staff, community members, and partners on child protection principles and practices.

   - Develop and disseminate educational materials and resources.

4. Data Management and Reporting:

   - Assist in data collection, analysis, and management for child protection programs.

   - Contribute to preparing reports on activities, outcomes, and program impacts.

5. Research and Advocacy:

   - Support research activities on child protection trends, best practices, and policy developments.

   - Assist in advocacy efforts to promote child rights and protection policies.

Any other duty assigned by line supervisor.

Organizational Responsibilities:

Policy Adherence

  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct, maintain humanitarian principles and respect international humanitarian law.

Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse:

  • Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and amongst beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps.

Compliance & Ethics:

  • Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance and ethics throughout the International Medical Corps. As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of International Medical Corps and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards.  Conducts work with the highest level of integrity.

Safeguarding

  • It is all staff’s shared responsibility and obligation to safeguard and protect populations with whom we work, including adults who may be particularly vulnerable and children. This includes safeguarding from the following conduct by our staff or partners: sexual exploitation and abuse; exploitation, neglect, or abuse of children and adults at risk; and any form of trafficking in persons. 

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Fresh graduate or last 2-year graduation from Social Work, Psychology, International Relations, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • Familiarity in child protection, humanitarian aid, and global health will be an asset.
  • analytical, research, and writing skills will be an asset.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; additional software skills are a plus.

Competency:

  • Good written and oral communication skills in Dari and Pashto, and English, - Language skills relevant to the operational region are desirable.
  • Honest hardworking and self-motivated.

Interpersonal skills and ability to work within different cultural environments.
