Job Description:

Job Purpose 

Reporting to the PSS Officer, he/she will be responsible for coordinating the implementation, capacity building monitoring, and documentation of Child Friendly Spaces (CFS). The position will provide direct support to the CFS facilitators throughout the project period at the district and village level.  

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Develop activity-based work plan to guide effective and efficient implementation of planned PSS activities in Child Friendly Space by the Facilitators. 

  • Support in capacity building activities including training, coaching and mentorship to the CFS Facilitators on PSS including PFA to promote quality provision of PSS services. 

  • Oversee the establishment and management of Child-Friendly Spaces (Mobile/ Static, community based) in Afghanistan including establishment of exit and sustainability strategy. 

  • Ensure there is the integration of CP with other sectors in the Child-Friendly Spaces 

  • Monitor regular PSS activities being conducted by community-based structures like CFS facilitators and provide additional technical support.   

  • Collaborating closely with other MHPSS partners and other sub-sectors leads to strengthen referral and timely response. 

  • Ensure PSS services in the CFS are mainstream across child protection strategic interventions like case management/ family tracing and reunification and across other sub-sectors. 

  • Provide education sessions to the families and community members on the importance of CFS on a regular basis and as deemed necessary using evidence-based information. 

  • Carry out awareness raising activities on PSS issues with children, young people, and other community members for timely reporting of a child experiencing PSS issues. 

  • Establish child-friendly Complaint and Feeback reporting (CFRM) mechanisms. 

  • Maintain effective working relationships with all relevant stakeholders including the project partners and other NGOs, civil society groups, authorities, etc. 

  • Ensure timely and proper documentation (filing, case studies, etc.), information management and reporting on CFS activities is done. 

  • Participated in assessment activities and coordination meeting to share information on WCUK’s PSS intervention with children and families at district or province levels.

Job Requirements

Person Specification 

War Child in Afghanistan operates in a dynamic environment with a team of highly motivated and dedicated staff. The right candidate will share these qualities and bring effective leadership to a diverse team. The position requires strong relationship management and coordination skills, experience in humanitarian programming and protracted emergencies, supporting partners in a remote setting, a good knowledge of the challenges of operating in cross border environment, and experience with capacity assessment and capacity building. 

 

Experience and mandatory criteria: 

  • Minimum of Diploma in Social works, Counselling Psychology, or relevant discipline. 

  • Previous work experience in community development or with an INGO (particularly managing a Child Friendly Space) 

  • Experience in facilitating community meetings.  

  • Minimum 1 year of professional humanitarian experience (experience working with IDPs communities a plus) 

  • Excellent writing, facilitation, and organizational skills. 

  • Excellent command of the English language and another local language  

  • Strong drive for results and ensuring timely delivery of quality products. 

  • Experience managing child protection and gender-based violence cases in a sensitive and child friendly manner. 

  • Strong skills in monitoring, evaluation, research and conducting participatory, community-led assessments. Experience working with case files and databases and providing regular documentation.  

  • Excellent community mobilization skills  

  • Ability to work individually and within a team with limited supervision. A self-starter.  

  • Good analytical, problem solving and project planning skills. 

  • Able to communicate clearly and strategically with internal and external stakeholders as a representative of War Child UK. 

  • Strong capacity building/training/coaching/mentoring skills with communities and internal and external staff  

  • Computer knowledge - Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
